I started Webcredible with no money, no office, no clients, no contacts... but a lot of drive and determination to help brands sort out their customers' digital experiences. It ended up being a 15-year journey, starting with an idea in my head and culminating with us being acquired by Inviqa.

When I got started, we were one of the very first UX agencies and I grew the company (with the help of many Fellow Webcredibles) to be one of the most well-respected and well-known experience design agencies in the UK.

It was an amazing roller coaster ride and my top 7 highlights over the 15 years include (in no particular order):

1. Creating a self-sustaining business and well-oiled machine that no longer needs my involvement day-to-day 
2. Achieving both revenue growth and profit 13 out of 15 years (and successfully steering the company out of our 2 x downturns)
3. Creating and sustaining an amazing culture based on collaboration, trust and empowerment
4. Working with some extraordinarily talented people who I’ve learnt so much from, especially our leadership teams and external advisors 
5. Doing lots of knowledge sharing – hosting events, running training courses, writing blogs/reports etc. (and learning loads myself along the way)
6. Trying to launch in the US (we failed and lost a bunch of money... but learnt a lot in the process)
7. Being acquired by Inviqa so we can offer business & change consulting, experience design and software development all under one roof

I conceived, setup and chair the Age UK digital advisory board. I recruited some senior digital pros from across the industry to join me and we meet every quarter with the Age UK CEO and exec team. 

The aim of the board is to lead and support Age UK through their digital transformation, keeping the momentum going and steering them in the right direction. 

Age UK do some amazing charitable work to support the over 60s, striving to create a world where everyone can love later life.

That experience taught me a lot. Informal care helps, but structured support makes all the difference.

What a week.

I’ve spoken, hosted, coached, recorded, socialised and pitched.

And now, my social battery has quietly left the building.

This week, I’ve hosted the Agency Folk leadership session, spoke at the Agency Growth Events Summit about client leadership, ran Team Sterka workshops and coached my usual cohort of agency leaders.

In between, I interviewed Tina Judic for my Human Powered by Trenton Moss podcast, then flipped roles and became the guest on Tracey Burnett’s agency marketing podcast.

I also made it to the brilliant Agency Hackers comedy night - as well as their post-conference dinner (thanks for a fun night, SUPO). 

All while building an AI version of myself for my clients. Because why not. 

So today is... Still. Quiet. Not too many calls.

Busy weeks can be brilliant. They can also drain you, even when you love what you do.

Today is me respecting that reality. And I’m grateful for the pause.

New business is really tough right now.

Driving long-term success

I’ve been putting myself out there more than usual lately.

Cold emails. LinkedIn DMs. Following up with people I met months ago.

And mostly... trying not to be annoying 😩

New biz outreach is always a bit full on. It can be rewarding, but honestly, it’s also pretty draining.

35% revenue uplift. But it didn’t happen in a glamorous moment.

It happened in year 13 of running my agency. I was worn down. And I finally realised we weren’t getting the best out of our team.

We were doing brilliant work. 

But we weren’t unlocking the potential that was already there. So, we:

🎓 Ran an ongoing training programme in client leadership skills 
🌗 Split the team into autonomous pods 
💰 Introduced a WMIF to incentivise the team (which worked way better than commission)
🏃‍♂️ Defined and reinforced the behaviours we expected in client interactions
🧑‍💼 Shared all the commercial details of the business

None of this was rocket science. But together, it shifted how people showed up for clients - and that’s what unlocked the 35% revenue uplift.
