Caffeine & alcohol.  

Can they be a part of your healthy diet?

For caffeine – yes. 

As long as you limit your intake to a healthy amount, coffee, tea, and some energy drinks are perfectly fine to incorporate into your daily routine. 

Alcohol is another story.

And my first question to anyone adamant about consuming it regularly is…

Why?

It has a clear negative effect on your brain as you age and does nothing to IMPROVE your body in any way. 

You can have it in moderation (if you must), but I recommend all of my clients cut it out completely for at least one month.

Here’s my 2-step blueprint for how to eat yourself sick: 
 
1. Eat a diet full of ultra-processed food. 
2. Eat as much as possible at every meal. 
 
Trust me, this works; I did it for most of my youth. 
 
Here’s exactly what I ate for lunch in high school: 
 
- A double-quarter pounder with bacon and cheese, a super-sized french fry, a 6-piece chicken nugget, and a large soda. 
 
- A chicken roll plus either 1 or 2 slices of pizza. 
 
- A 12" Subway sub, usually with extra meat and cheese ... sometimes, 18". 
 
With these eating habits ingrained, it didn’t take long for me to get fat. 
 
Here’s my 2-step blueprint for how to reverse this: 
 
1. Learn to cook. 
2. Eat whole foods 80% of the time. 
 
Trust me, this works; I’ve done it for 25 years. 
 
You can turn the direction of your health entirely around.

In the beginning, 𝘐 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱. 
 
I began 𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺. 
 
I taught myself 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨. 
 
None of them were easy for me at the time: 
 
I was scared. 
 
It was hard to stay consistent.

The 11 most common causes of cravings are: 
 
1. 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: If you’re undernourished. 
2. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: This is a big one. 
3. 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: If it’s too low or high. 
4. 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽: Or, lack of it. 
5. 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: We are emotional beings. 
6. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹: Your childhood & ancestry.

You don't make time to take care of yourself because:

-> You're busy.

-> You have a job (or two).

-> You have kids.

... 𝘢𝘯𝘥, you don't make time to take care of yourself because:

-> Things you've tried have yet to stick.

-> You figure you can 'do it later' in life.

-> Other things are more important right now.

3 Things About Time

If you want to stop falling off the wagon, stop getting on the wrong wagon.

🛑 Starting advanced programs.

🛑 Doing things that won’t last.

🛑 Thinking you’re not a beginner.

If you want to stay on the wagon, get on the right wagon.

✅ Start from where you are now.

✅ Do what you can stick to.

✅ Embrace the beginner’s mindset.

Examples of the wrong initial wagon for most people:

🛑 4 hours of complex gym training per week.

🛑 Cooking 90% of your food.

🛑 Eliminating an entire food group.

Examples of the right initial wagon for most people:

✅ 20 minutes per day of daily movement.

✅ Cook 20% more than you did last week.

✅ Add lean protein to most meals.

Sure, some people are ready for more complex tasks than others.

But most people - that’s probably you - are not, yet.

I do mobility work 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 whether I’m lifting weights or not. 
 
My muscles will keep me healthy and strong longer than most. 
 
(Plus, they look great.) 
 
𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘫𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴. 
 
Here are some examples of mobility work: 
 
- Hip & arm circles in different planes. 
- Squatting and rotating limbs during it. 
- Crawling, rolling, jumping, bending. 
 
These shouldn’t be too easy ...  
 
… you should feel some resistance and test your limits. 
 
(But not be painful.) 
 
Establishing a five-minute daily mobility routine today will be one of the best investments you can make into your quality of life later.

I'm 'that guy' who does yoga in airports. 
 
I don't mind the attention, but that's not why I do it. 
 
I do it because I hate feeling tight after sitting for so long. 
 
The extra stretching before and after helps. 
 
Some find it weird, most are indifferent, others are intrigued. 
 
Occasionally I bump into another yogi. 
 
Any positive conversations that come out of it are a bonus. 
 
But I do it for me, to make sure I feel my best. 
 
If there's something you're not doing for your health because of how someone else might feel about it, remember ...

Those 2 thoughts don’t fit together because only 1 is true.

This is true. You will get sick if you eat a diet full of ultra-processed foods.

This is false! No food is bad on its own; the dose and context matter.

These 4 Dietary Missteps Could Be Harming You

If you’re making 1 or more of these, you’re not alone.

Well-meaning people end up frustrated by these often:

𝟭. 𝗖𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗠𝘂𝗰𝗵

Removing an entire group of foods or a large percentage of total calories for extended periods is unsustainable and potentially dangerous.

𝟮. 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 '𝗕𝗮𝗱’

This inevitably leads to confusion, fear, and self-judgment, making it very difficult to enjoy life and meals as they were meant to be.
