I'll be honest here and won't make any outlandish promises. 

I'm not here to convince you about the importance of building a personal brand. If you haven't already been convinced enough, we won't be a good fit.

You know for a fact that having a strong social presence can...

~ Help your agency attract your dream clients 
~ Create opportunities to be invited to podcasts and events
~ Establish yourself as an authority in your niche
~ Generate a constant flow of leads so that you can (finally) have predictable revenue

And more importantly, given how saturated LinkedIn has become lately, the key to standing out is scaling content volume without compromising on quality.

Jani Vrancsik scaled his Clay agency from $0 to $1M ARR in 12 months. And 65% of his leads come through LinkedIn.

The irony?

He runs an outbound agency that builds cold outreach systems for B2B SaaS companies, but doesn't do any outbound for his own business.

His content strategy is pretty straightforward: post 5 times per week showing real Clay workflows, actual client results, and behind-the-scenes of building the agency. 

I've noticed that he also puts a heavy emphasis on carousels. 

My hypothesis is that it helps increase the dwell time on the platform, leading to more reach.

Even otherwise, I strongly believe you should be doing Loom walkthroughs if you're in the Clay space. It's the fastest way to stand out and show you have real skin in the game. 

Patrick Spychalski does it. 🦾Eric Nowoslawski does it.

And that's something Jani does every now and then too.

He and his co-founder batch content on weekends - writing, recording, editing everything themselves.

His biggest regret? 

"I wish we started taking LinkedIn seriously earlier. Posting on LinkedIn may seem like a menial task, but it's actually one of the most high-leverage things you can do."

There's a tradeoff though.

With outbound, you control exactly who you target - you pick the companies, the titles, the timing. With inbound, you may end up attracting a bunch of bad fits. 

You can't control the quality or fit as precisely. 

That being said, it shouldn't be a huge problem if you have a good qualification process in place.

The reality is most agency owners rely heavily on referrals. It works - until you hit a dry spell and suddenly have nothing in the pipeline. 

That unpredictability is the core problem with referral dependency.

LinkedIn gives you a more predictable engine if you're willing to stick with it. 

The content compounds over time, and once you're established as the go-to expert in your niche, leads flow more consistently than waiting for referrals.

Most agency owners won't do the work. That's exactly why it works for those who do.

On privilege, luck, and opportunity.

I got to spend ~4 weeks at San Francisco recently. I believe the sheer concentration of opportunity in the Bay Area is unlike anywhere else.

There were open events literally every other day where you could connect with some of the brightest and most accomplished minds.

The ecosystem is designed to make things happen. Faster. Easier. With less friction.

If you're born into that, or even if you just have easy access to it, you start the race several laps ahead.

We don't like admitting how much of our success isn't really ours.

Timing matters more than we think.

Being early to something - a platform, a technology, an industry shift gives you returns that have nothing to do with how hard you worked.

You were just there when it mattered.

Geography matters more than we think.

Some places have more doors. More introductions. More capital. More people who've done it before and can show you the shortcuts.

Network matters more than we think.

If you know people who can make a single intro that changes your trajectory, that's a privilege.

The story we love to tell goes like this:

"I built this from scratch. I outworked everyone. I was relentless."

And look, maybe that's partially true.

But it's incomplete.

It leaves out the part where you were in the right place at the right time.

It leaves out the part where someone gave you a break.

It leaves out the luck.

I'm not saying effort doesn't matter. It absolutely does.

But effort isn't the whole story.

And when we pretend it is, we do two things:

1. We lie to ourselves about why we succeeded

2. We ignore the reality that many brilliant, hardworking people never get the same shot

Not because they lack ambition.

Not because they're not smart enough.

But because they weren't born into the right zip code, didn't stumble into the right room, or missed the timing window by a year or two.

If you've benefited from advantages you didn't create, the least you can do is acknowledge it.

Because the moment you start believing your success is 100% your own doing, you stop seeing the people who are working just as hard but don't have the same tailwinds.

I don't have a neat conclusion here.

I'm still articulating my thoughts.

But I do think we could all stand to be a little more honest about what got us here.

And a lot more humble about it.

Finally back home after 6 weeks of travel.
 
Met some incredible people, had conversations I'd been trying to make happen for months and learned a ton.
 
But constant travel absolutely kills your work rhythm.
 
New city every week. New workspace. New timezone sometimes.
 
Being on the west coast when your clients operate on EST hours is definitely not fun.
 
So now I'm back, getting my routine sorted, and I've got three things I'm focused on:
 
1. Starting a podcast

I'll be interviewing agency owners who are crushing it on LinkedIn.
 
I want to understand what's working for them with their content approach, how they're thinking about outreach, what their offer looks like, how they're using ads if at all.
 
Not high-level strategy BS but actual tactical breakdowns.

Uncensored Founders is the tentative name but I've got mixed feelings about it.
 
2. Building the absolute best founder branding playbook for GTM agency owners

There's so much generic advice out there. The goal is to create the most comprehensive resource out there with real frameworks, real examples, real breakdowns of what's working.
 
It'll take time to get right, but I'd rather do it properly than rush out another mediocre guide.
 
3. Resuming Clay Bootcamp 🥾
 
I've been putting this off for way too long. I have a couple of projects I want to build with it. Pretty excited to see how they turn out. Anna B., please hold me accountable this time haha.
 
Now here's the part where I need to be honest:
 
I've talked about eating my own dog food so many times at this point that it's almost embarrassing.

And I keep slipping back into old habits.
 
Kirti Baheti recently posted about how we have all these processes for our clients but none for ourselves.
 
That's the trap, right? We hold our clients accountable but somehow give ourselves a pass.

Let's see if it changes this time.
 
One last thing - there might be some BIG news next month. 
 
It may or may not happen. Can't share details yet because I don't want to jinx it, but I've never been as excited about anything in years. 
 
Either way, I'll keep you posted.

From my experience at the Clay Bootcamp 🥾, I kept running into the same pattern: agency owners who are exceptional at driving client results but when it comes to their own LinkedIn presence, there's often no clear path forward. 

☑ What content actually drives leads? 
☑ What's the strategy behind it? 
☑ How do the best people structure their approach?

Nathan Lippi 🥾 and I thought: what if we could document what's actually working and turn it into something practical that people could use immediately? 

It's going to made SPECIFICALLY for GTM agencies.

So that's what I'm working on.

Creating a comprehensive playbook agency owners can immediately put to use to start driving leads through the platform.

Last week, I spoke to Jani Vrancsik, who built his agency from 0 to $1M ARR in <18 months with 65% of his leads coming through LinkedIn (full breakdown dropping tomorrow)

Very soon, I'll be interviewing Alex Fine🌲 who's not only crushing it for his clients at Understory but is also doing an amazing job at documenting the whole thing.

Still figuring out the format, but the goal is simple: understand what's working and make it accessible to everyone else.

One of our clients just booked a sales call with a $10M ARR SaaS. Potentially worth ~$70-100k ACV.
 
FYI, this Sr. Director has never engaged with a single post. No likes, no comments, nothing.
 
If you looked at engagement metrics alone, you'd assume the content wasn't reaching the right people. Or that content isn't worth the investment because you aren't getting even 100 likes on your posts. You'd be making decisions based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how senior buyers actually behave.
 
The reality is that most executives are lurkers. They're passively consuming content and reaching out when timing aligns with their needs. They're not performing their due diligence in public.
 
This creates a measurement problem that most agencies haven't solved.
 
You're running attribution models designed for e-commerce transactions on consultative B2B sales cycles that span months.
 
Last-touch attribution will consistently mislead you. A prospect might read fifteen of your posts over six months, listen to three podcast episodes, and then Google your agency name before filling out a contact form. Your analytics credit Google.
 
But the actual influence happened across LinkedIn and podcast, none of which shows up in your conversion path.
 
I've seen this pattern enough times now to know it's not an outlier. I'll share another example next week.
 
The prospects with the largest budgets are often the quietest.
 
They're directors and VPs at companies doing eight or nine figures in revenue. They're using the platform as a research tool, and when they find signal in the noise, they act on it privately.
 
So what should you track instead?
 
1. Profile views from your ICP

2. Connection requests from ICP, not other vendors.

3. Mentions of discovery sources through self-reported attribution in your intake forms. Ask people how they found you in a plain text field.

The fundamental issue is that brand-building doesn't fit into the performance marketing frameworks most of us were trained on. The ROI is real, but it's diffuse, compounding, and resistant to clean measurement.
 
This is why so many agencies give up on content too early.
 
They're looking for immediate conversion signals in a channel that primarily builds awareness and credibility over time. They're measuring it like paid ads when it behaves more like PR or word-of-mouth.
 
If you're an agency owner trying to build a predictable pipeline beyond referrals, you have to accept that the cause-and-effect relationship between content and revenue is messier than you want it to be. 

You need to build your attribution model around that reality instead of pretending you can track everything with UTM parameters.
 
But if you're willing to play a longer game, the compounding effects make everything else easier.

Nathan Latka argues that founder-market fit matters more than product-market fit. His logic: if you don't deeply understand your market, you can't build the right product for them.
 
I'd extend that thinking to LinkedIn: if you don't understand what resonates with your audience, you can't craft the right message. And the only way to figure that out is by testing in public. Yet most founders are waiting for perfect conditions before they start.
 
They want the perfect content strategy mapped out before they post anything. Then they'll start building their LinkedIn presence. Then it'll be worth the effort.
 
The problem with this logic is that it assumes you can figure out your message in a vacuum. You can't.
 
I've worked with dozens of founders on their LinkedIn presence over the past four years. The ones who succeed aren't the ones who spent three months planning the perfect content calendar.
 
They're the ones who started posting with a decent hypothesis and iterated based on what actually performed. They discovered their message by testing it in public, not by workshopping it in private.
 
Look, your content strategy WILL CHANGE.
 
You'll notice certain topics consistently resonate with your ICP while others fall flat. You'll stumble into insights you didn't plan to share. Your positioning will evolve as you get clearer on who you serve and what problem you solve better than anyone else.
 
All of that learning happens through doing, not through planning.
 
The irony is that agency owners understand this deeply when it comes to their clients' marketing. You wouldn't tell a client to wait six months before launching any campaigns until every variable is optimized.
 
You'd tell them to start with a solid foundation, test quickly, and optimize based on data. But when it comes to our own LinkedIn presence, we suddenly become perfectionists.
 
There are narrow exceptions where a short pause makes sense. If you're in the middle of a rebrand, launching a fundamentally new offer, or about to publish a case study that changes your positioning, sure - wait a week to get those pieces in place.
 
Your profile should be optimized to convert when opportunities show up. But we're talking days, not weeks or months. The cost of delay compounds quickly.
 
This is a long game.
 
You're optimizing for perfect conditions while your competitors are occupying mindshare with imperfect but consistent content.
 
You wouldn't expect to learn to swim by watching YouTube tutorials. At some point, you have to get in the water. LinkedIn is no different.
 
The goal isn't to post without thinking. You should have a point of view, understand your ICP, and have some sense of the problems you solve.
 
But those things don't require months of preparation.
 
They require enough clarity to start, and enough humility to adjust as you go.
