Healthy things grow w/ the right soil, sunlight, and root system to produce 30x, 60x, 100x impact. Creating maximum conditions for growth; Pruning all aspects of life that don’t produce fruit.

It’s Sunday night, so this post will probably get buried…

But my wife is an unbelievably talented artist.

Like really freakin good. And not in an “I’m her husband and have to say this” kind of way. But in a “her art is actually that good” kind of way.

She painted this Cowboy Santa at her parents’ kitchen table with kids and family running around during Thanksgiving week.

Every December she does a limited release Santa print. This year’s goal: sell all 100.

I told her she could 100% do it if she got it in front of enough people.

So let’s show her the power of the internet.

It’s fun when worlds collide. 

I’ve known Parker Pursell for years. 

Before LinkedIn. Before the pictures of Pursell Farms (beautiful). Before his excellent writing integrating faith and business. 

But the best part (or one of) the best parts about Parker is that he’s the same online as he is offline. 

Same passion. Same zeal. Same energy. 

Same thoughtfulness and determination and raw and honest leadership you see here. 

If you’re not following Parker. Go follow him now. 

And Parker — great spending time together today. 

The best is ahead.

This is an off the cuff post. 

But the people I respect most have the ability to still do a 15 minute workout when they originally planned for 60 but life got in the way. 

Same goes for key projects or hard convos that need to happen. etc. 

They don’t have an all or nothing mentality. 

They have a something > nothing mentality. 

And, from my pov, it’s how they’ve become so successful and talented and gifted at what they do — including how they do it. 

I know I could be wrong. 

It’s just an observation I’ve seen lately. 

And truly…

Something I’m fighting for too.

It’s my goal in life to live:

On message. On mission. In ministry. 

To follow the creation mandate, “to be fruitful and multiply”

The great commandment “to love God w/ all of my heart, soul, mind and strength” and to “love love my neighbor as myself” 

And the great commission “to go therefore and make disciples”

To live w/ no reserves, no retreats, and no regrets. 

And to do all things for the Glory of God. 

Will I do it perfectly? No
Do I have a Savior who did? Yes. 

Will I fail? Yes
Will he ever fail me? No

These are the reminders I give myself. 

To never forget I have one short life. 

To live it. Fully. With intention and clarity. 

In marriage. In fatherhood. In business. 

In all of life…

One radically simple lifehack you can implement today…

Here it goes:

- Pick someone you love, care about, or appreciate. 
- Open the messages app on your phone. 
- Drop an audio text, telling them that. 
- Repeat for 2 more people. 

That’s it. 

If you do 3 per day for 30 days. You’ll be astonished by the rewards. Not for you. But for all parties involved.  

Don’t know where to start? 

Start w/ your parents, if they’re still w/ you. 

That alone is blessing enough to keep going.

But I’m 99% you won’t regret it. 

P.S. oh yeah, the gurus I trust say don’t use the comment strategy above, but for something like this, the more action the better!

It’s been an amazing year and I’m just here to say thanks for all of the calls, clients, coaching sessions, wrapping up an amazing 4.5 yr run at Anchor, my wife and kids and friends, our local move, my sabbatical…

All of it. And all of you. 

Thanks y’all.

The right friends will make you a little bit uncomfortable. Not because they’re putting you down…

But because they’re challenging you to more. 

Find those friends.

Don’t have them. 
Please fight to find them. 

“The best way to make new friend is to be a good friend” and recognize few people will ever come up to you and say “want to be friends?” as an adult. 

Go look for people doing the things you want to be doing and do your best to join them. 

Or, simply do the things you want to be doing and invite others to join. 

My two favorite paths above.

The day you realize you are 100% responsible for your life, your thoughts, and your actions. 

Is the same day you become free.

And the possibilities for your life…

Are now nearly limitless. Or at the very least, much larger than they’ve ever been before.

Dropping my raw & honest reply to a question I was asked this week. 

Real talk, I’d like to hear your thoughts too. 

Here it goes: 

“I’m 6-7yrs into my career in supply chain so still early on, and I’m trying to figure out what I really want to do - role/area, company, etc. I know I want to do really meaningful work and make a big impact. What advice would you give me?”

My reply: 

1. Take your last 6 yrs and write down the work that’s given you the most life and energy. Keep this document updated. 

2. Think on the areas of your work where you are asked for advice or input most often (this could be an indicator). Track this. 

3. Start spending time w/ peers or leaders at companies you may want to work for in the future. Do it now when you don’t need for a job. So when you do explore. You can start w/ them. 

4. Look for companies that have a vision you can get excited about it. In the meantime, create a vision for your work today that you can get excited about. 

5. Ask yourself: how can I have the biggest impact today in my current job? Then go do that. 

Ultimately, treat your job today like the best and last job you’ll ever have. That goes a long way.

10 winning strategies your boss can’t ignore. 

A two-minute guide to getting promoted. 

Let’s begin. 

1.     Think. Pressure-test your ideas and assumptions before bringing them to the table. What's the upside? downside? etc.

2.    Execute and Own your role from top to bottom. 

3.    Don't grumble and complain. You can vent for 5 minutes. After that, start attacking the problem.

4.    Address issues w/ other people, directly w/ other people. Only bring it to your boss if you can't resolve it. Or it's a repeated pattern.

5.    Enthusiasm is contagious. Spread it. 

6.    Help your boss tackle their biggest challenge. Learn what you can take off of their plate. Then do it.

7.    Aggressive Learning. If you don't know how to do something, build a plan to learn it, or find someone who does.

8.    Focus on the 20% of your activities driving 80% of the results. Don't let small checklist wins get in the way of big revenue wins.

9.    Do what you say. When you say you’ll do it. 

10.   Tell your boss when you're overloaded. Then, process what you can automate, delegate, delete or delay. 

The more your boss has to think about your job.  

The less safe your job is.

Bonus Tip: Have bad news? Get it to your boss quickly. Tell them you have bad news, your plan to address it, and how they can help.

Do this for 6 months and you’re on the fast path to more pay and a promotion. 

At least, if that’s what you want.
