Most people slow down towards December.

At the end of the year I always hear the phrase “Let’s talk in the new year.”

Here’s what I still see too often:

– Resumes full of tasks, not outcomes
– Cover letters focused on “me,” not “you”
– DMs that ask for help without building rapport
– Interview answers that talk about work, but don’t sell impact

Let me put it plainly:

If you make it hard for hiring managers to understand your value,
they’ll hire someone who makes it easy.

You don’t need to fake it.
You need to frame it better.

And if you’re not sure how to do that?

Ask for help.

No one builds a career alone.

Short answer: Both

If they can find decent money for a counteroffer,
they could’ve paid you properly the first time.

It’s not just about money- it’s about value alignment.

One reason I earned $350K+ in IT wasn’t being the smartest in the room.
It was knowing my worth and acting on it.

Most people don’t fail from low ambition.
They stall because they tolerate too little for too long.

You might have:
– A great team
– A familiar environment
– Comfort with systems and processes

But if you’re undervalued... comfort is costing you.

What to do next?

1. Define the number you deserve (market value + impact)
2. Bring proof (metrics, before/after, scope, risk reduced)
3. Make the ask - clearly and confidently
4. Use external offers if needed (no guilt)
5. Set a decision deadline and next step

If your company won’t see your value, someone else will.
Don’t stay stuck because it’s “easier.”

On paper, some of the best leaders fall behind.
