I moved to Bali 4 years ago to build a business. 

I have a background in marketing and building startups, and last year I built 2 AI tools.

So, naturally, I decided to write about AI and sell AI automation as a service. But, after many interviews, I realized that people don't want automation in general. They want a solution for their specific needs.

So, I decided to focus on the things I like - lead generation. And it turns out, a lot of people want more leads.

With my experience running ads for big companies like Lexus, I decided to focus on helping companies with this instead of AI automation.

I'm still in the beginning stages, but I'm really enjoying the process of doing what I love.

I failed my $10k MRR challenge.

On January 1st, I set a goal to reach $10k MRR in 100 days.

The challenge is complete, but I didn't succeed. I didn’t make $10k. 

Last week metrics:

- 🌎 Traffic: 71 (-7.8%)
- 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Users: 171 (+0)
- 🤖 Chatbots: 121 (+0)
- 🎙️ Conversations: 980 (+5)
- 💬 Messages: 5589 (+19)
- 🤑 Customers: 3
- 💰 MRR: $175 

100 Days Results:

- 1400 website visitors on Craftman
- 1800 website visitors on SMM Agents
- 71 website visitors on the third local startup
- +21 users on Craftman
- +2 customers on SMM Agent
- $435 total sales

Where I spent my time:

- AI Kitchen Agency: 55%
- Without projects (strategy, analysis, journaling, etc): 16%
- Creating content : 15%
- SMM Agent: 10%
- Craftman: 2%
- Others: 2%

100 Days Insights:

- I'm definitely upset with the results of this challenge. The most upsetting thing is that I spent 70% mostly on sales and marketing. 

- My execution is the weakest part. This is the number one thing I want to improve. I have many goals, but I often don’t accomplish everything in a short amount of time either because I over-plan or because I underestimate the time needed for tasks I’m doing for the first time.

- Selling to local businesses is harder than I expected. It seems simple according to YouTube gurus, but it’s not.

- The offer matters a lot. It’s funny because I’ve read "The $100M Offer" and understand the importance of the offer, but the revealing thing happens when I realize that your offer isn’t just some epic idea you created in your head. The offer is your idea AND the market. For example, my offer was “Get 10 buyer and seller leads for free for realtors” It seemed like a great idea—they have no risks and they don’t pay until they get leads. Sounds cool, right? It’s cool until you realize that 80% of marketers are saying the same in their messages. So, it’s not unique. And when the market is saturated, it means your offer is too. If I want to sell in saturated markets, I need to create a unique offer or find an unmet segment in the market. And that's what I’m working on now.

- I realized I miss coding, so in the last few weeks, I've launched a few things on SMM Agent and am quite happy to return to coding. However, I’d love to balance my time better, maybe 60% for marketing and 40% for coding.

- Focus on SMM Agent. I plan to add more features and improve the product in the coming months.

- I did improve my skills in cold emailing, video creation, and editing, and outreach, which makes me happy.

I’m saddened by failing the challenge, but I’m not giving up. I will continue to share my journey to $10k MRR.

The most important skill in 2024.

I realized it only this year.

One of the key mistakes I made before was underestimating writing.

The truth is, writing is the most important skill for building a business and a personal brand.

Why Is writing the most important skill?

I listened to an interview with Nathan Barry, the founder of ConvertKit who grew it to $40M ARR. He shared his journey from being a designer, to selling ebooks, and building software.

He said the single skill that helped him build his business and be successful is writing 1,000 words per day.

It clicked with me because it helped him generate new ideas, create interesting content, build an audience, and write books. It also helped him journal his story and reflect on key milestones.

Building this habit gave a tremendous boost to his business.

He wrote 1,000 words every day for 600 days.

Crazy!

Time for a new challenge.

So, I decided to take on Nathan’s challenge in a lighter format.

I’m going to write 1,000 words every day for the next 100 days.

I always postponed writing to do “more important” things. There were always important things that kept me from writing. In the end, I didn’t write much

I want to change that now.

I’m going to set aside 1 hour every morning in my calendar to write 1,000 words. It’s my new daily routine.

Here are the main topics I plan to write about:

- Facebook Ad insights and case studies, since I run a marketing agency and help brands grow their revenue through Facebook ads.
- Sharing my journey and insights on building and growing businesses (agency and startup).
- Building an audience, especially case studies and observations on how people grow their audiences.

By the way, today is the first day I’m following this challenge and writing 1,000 words. I must confess, it sounds simple but it’s not easy. Struggling at word 525... It will be an interesting challenge.

I found this really cool NatureBox's ad campaign on Facebook. 

They absolutely killed it and I think we can all learn a thing or two from them.

So here's why it worked so well:

1. They used eye-catching visuals: They made a clever shot that looks like you're reaching into a pile of healthy snacks. The photo clearly displays the snacks and highlights the "free trial" offer.

2. They targeted the right audience: I'm a health-conscious millennial, so their ad was right up my alley. They knew exactly who they were trying to reach and it paid off.

3. They had a clear call-to-action: NatureBox invites you to try a free sample, making it easy to know what to do next.

4. They had a compelling offer: The ad promised me to try a free sample of healthy snacks. Who doesn't love free stuff? 

Overall, NatureBox's ad campaign was a great example of how to grab attention, engage your audience, and get them to take action.

So you want to print 6-figures in sales from ads on Facebook?

Here's how:

1. Test a ton of creatives. Like, a TON. At least 50-100.

2. Find the winners. You'll know they're winners when they consistently get a high CTR (click-through rate) and low CPC (cost per click).

3. Scale the winners. Start by increasing the budget by 20% every 1-2 days. Once you hit $1k/day, you can increase by 50% every 1-2 days.

4. Kill the losers. If a creative isn't performing well after $100 in spend, it's probably not going to magically start performing well. Cut it and move on.

5. Optimize the winners. Once you have a winner, you can start optimizing it. Make small tweaks to the headline, ad copy, and CTA (call-to-action) to improve performance.

6. Rinse and repeat. Keep testing new creatives, finding winners, and scaling them. This is how you consistently print 6-figures in sales from creatives on Facebook.

10 things I wish I knew before creating my first Facebook ads campaign.

1. Start with a small budget. Like, really small. You’re going to make mistakes and you don’t want to waste a ton of money doing it.

2. Don’t get discouraged if your first campaign doesn’t work. It’s normal. Just keep testing and tweaking until you find what works for you.

3. Facebook ads are not a “set it and forget it” type of thing. You need to be monitoring your campaigns daily and making adjustments as needed.

4. Don’t be afraid to turn off a campaign that’s not working. It’s better to cut your losses early than to keep throwing money at something that’s not going to work.

5. Make sure you have a way to track your results. Whether that’s through Facebook’s pixel or some other tracking tool, you need to know what’s working and what’s not.

6. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are tons of Facebook ads groups and communities out there where you can get feedback and advice.

7. Test everything. Your audience, your ad copy, your images, your landing page. Everything.

8. Don’t get caught up in vanity metrics. Likes, comments, and shares are nice, but they don’t pay the bills. Focus on metrics that actually matter, like cost per lead or cost per sale.

9. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your ads. There are so many different ad formats and options available, so don’t be afraid to try something new.

10. Finally, don’t give up. Facebook ads can be frustrating, but they can also be incredibly powerful. Keep testing, keep learning, and eventually you’ll find what works for you.
