2026 Prediction:

Shopify will launch their own search engine

LLMs will use it to find relevant products
Users will purchase on chat

Online stores will receive less traffic and will adapt to a new prompt-to-sales model

Shopify has the largest unified network of merchants and have direct access to probably the largest eCommerce dataset comparable to Google's.

Other predictions for 2026 an beyond:

____ Social Media Will Take Over PR
Social media won't only be an active acquisition channel but they fundamental part of SEO growth > builds authority the fastest > If it goes viral goes to the news

____ SEOs become Social Media managers
SEOs have to become brand strategist and no fastest route than (again) on social media (I want my high rankings so I'll do it myself - via social media)

____ Google as social feed
Google will create their own "social media experience" to broaden their customer base. They will just use content that already exists (cough video) and display it as in-feed.

Search results might also transform into one-scroll-at-the-time feature

____ Technical SEO will have more impact
New (LLMs) crawlers are way less advanced than Google's. Light and simple websites will have more visibility than heavy JS loaded. A proper, fast website tech will count for online visibility

I am joining Esteve and Daniel as Brand Ambassador at LLM Pulse. I will be sharing insights on how to monitor and leverage visibility on all search channels.

Micro SEO hack: minify your HTML
[Shopify SEO]


Lighter website = better crawlability = better conversion

Shopify HTML can get very ugly and heavy which consumes more crawler resources and decreases search visibility

Here is how to fix heavy Shopify HTML
[for  advanced users]:

- Go you your theme code
- Take your HTML and  JSON templates
- Duplicate each file for its minified option

Name your minified versions something like "file-min.liquid"

Make sure your code is always clean 

Now, start to minify files:
- Remove all comments

Take to code to Sublime, Notepad ++ or similar
- Search for *double spaces*, remove them

Now take all HTML to one line:
- Search for "/n", remove all of them

You could use any online minifier too but sometimes they do not work with Liquid rules/code

Verify the code
- Preview the minified version: should render and the non-minified version

Now call for rendering the minified files versions within your theme

Done.

This action takes me 10-15 for 2-4 files per time.
Themes usually have 100+ HTML/json templates

Each file gets 20-25% optimized size...
This micro hack becomes a MACRO hack for a website of 100k pages

Website are getting gradually heavier in terms of resources: images, code, functionality, apps, plugins, analytics.

The lighter your website is the better for crawlers: it costs less to read
Easier to crawl = Easier to rank

Best way to minify HTML/json manually without causing a total disaster in your code base. Danger area: treat code with care.

My SEO grief stages:
1. Denial: 
"GEO is only SEO"

I did not see a difference between having my clients mentioned on Chat GPT vs ranking #1 on Google. "Pss I got this"

2. Anger: 
"How can these people say GEO"
I was furious at anyone saying SEO is dead and then "here is how to do GEO" like what? It is freaking the same...

3. Bargaining: 
"But LLMs use Bing and Google"
I was trying to justify why SEO is exactly the same as "pre-LLMs" as they are a proxy to regular search engines

4. Depression:
"I am gonna lose my job"
There was a period in 2025 I could barely get new deals closed as everyone was hesitant on the search marketing industry. I literally had prospects asking me "we do not want to do SEO, we want to do GEO"...

5. Acceptance:
"The search market has heavily changed and it is MY responsibility to research, test and share all I can so people are informed"

Traffic? CTR? Conversion?
None of these metrics are as relevant as they were

Got clients drop traffic substantially but conversions have increased YoY
Source of conversions are far from being deterministic

I must admit is confusing
the only thing I am doing is studying

It is STILL year 0
everything is about to happen
results as way to volatile
certainty does not exists

Do not sleep on your SEO

The user journey has changed quite a bit
SEO pillar weights have changed

And SEOs are the best people for the job

Fantastic articles by Reza Moaiandin and Dan Taylor ♒ on the impact of technical SEO debt in AI search visibility.

Users and Google got quite sophisticated and site performance has been neglected for the past few years as it was not even considered ranking factor

And in fact, in many cases I was able to rank pretty well "slow" website due to the fact the content was valuable and competition low

But now we are "AI search"

With new AI crawlers in place like ChatGPT-User, bad performing website won't be as visible on LLMs as they were on Google

For example, out of 2,138 websites cited by AI tools, "faster" websites were cited average 1.47x more than "slower" pages
{SALT.agency study}

Popups, javascript-rendered content, slow & resources-heavy sites will have a hard time on LLMs even though they might rank well on Google

Obviously it is quite early to make deterministic conclusions, and crawlers will get more advanced the upcoming years

Just let's consider this:
- crawling costs a lot of money

They worse is your website to be crawled the worse your performance will be.

It has been the "next big thing" for the last 15 years yet every year



Failed to deliver...

Makes sense as Google would not even take a long voice requests

Just heard this one from Jeroen Stikkelorum
If you want to be up to date follow him and join the SEO Brein community.

Technical SEO tip: AI search crawlers do not read Javascript-rendered content. Here an easy way to test your on-page content:


1 - Go to Gemini
2 - Provide a specific URL to test
3 - Ask to retrieve a specific section from the website

for example:

"get me the H1 title from this URL [url]"

The Gemini web crawler will render the page and retrieve ONLY what is raw server-side render content. 

You can easily test if sections of your content are visible or invisible.

If it is invisible for the AI crawler, now you know so you can fix it.

I just did and it helped me to identify a problem in the product description of a client: the content was partially available, only the first bit; the rest of the product description was hidden after clicking a button "read more". 

80% of the product description was not retrievable therefore impossible to rank anywhere. 

How I fixed it: I set the entire product description to be rendered as HTML without JS. 

I expect that AI crawlers will start soon rendering JS but I guess too costly...

Is all your website content server-side rendered?

I’m about to 2x client’s content to win international SEO. What happens next? You won't believe it.

No, for real...

This client is active in 4 regions / 6 countries:

- North America: United States
- Central America: Mexico
- South America: Ecuador, Peru, Colombia
- Europe: Spain

Each using their own local domain...

The thing is Spain has 90% of the actual content value: 5000 how-to guides. The rest of the regions do not have any of that.

The how-to guides receive most of the traffic and contain products to be purchased.

The Spanish website ranks everywhere. But conversion rates outside Spain are close to 0%.

Makes sense: users in America see the wrong currency, shipping options. They see products they can’t even buy.

There’s real demand but no one outside Spain can complete a purchase.

So I am making a plan to fix this:

I’m copying ALL the valuable content from the Spain site to the other regional sites.

- Step 1: Migrate the top 100 pages to each regional site
- Step 2: Implement hreflang so Google ranks the right local page

Once we see positive results (first traffic going to each region) we’ll roll out the entire content library with full hreflang setup.

My goals:

- Users get a local site where they can actually buy
- Lower bounce rates, more pages visited
- Rankings and quality improve across all markets

I fully expect Spanish traffic to drop, but as the right users finally land on the right sites, conversions will go up, and SEO will actually drive revenue.
