5 years ago, I had a breakdown.

And with it went my career in tech and marketing. I couldn’t take it anymore. 

Strapped to my corporate desk for 8-10 hours a day. Little sense of autonomy or purpose. Doing the wrong kind of work in the wrong environment was crushing my soul. 

There was a monumental mismatch between who I was and how I was spending my time.

With the help of a coach, I set out on a journey far deeper than “what shall I do next?”. I had to look the big existential questions in the face.

My career is now of my own choosing and design. I focus my heart and soul on getting good people out of jobs they hate.

If it happened IRL, it would have been stopped long ago.

We’ve been working on a campaign with Global Action Plan to call our government to ban surveillance advertising that’s targeted at children.

Usually we would try to take all of the credit for the idea, but we can’t. Because it came from a group of school children. We worked with them to refine it and test it. To make sure that the concept reflected their lived experience. It was a brilliant process, all facilitated by Global Action Plan.

If your boss is a total A hole and they're harming you.

👉🏼 They micro-manage and control you
👉🏼 They block you from opportunities 
👉🏼 They bully and gaslight you 
👉🏼 They have zero emotional intelligence 
👉🏼 They talk to you in a dismissive tone

Leave.

It’s as simple as that. 

Start looking for a new job. Now. 

Not saying it’s easy by any means. You’ve got bills to pay. Maybe you have dependents. 

But all the time you stay, you’re allowing the harm to continue. It’s chipping away at you every day.

Start planning your exit strategy. 

You can’t change people. Especially those who are entrenched in narcissistic tendencies. It ain’t gonna happen. 

You can’t change them. Their manager can’t change them. HR can’t change them. 

And on the way out let it be known why you’re leaving. When employers see they’re losing money and talent, maybe they’ll get the message. Maybe.

I’m disordered.


💎 I’ve a knack for seeing patterns that others don’t and weaving together all kinds of seemingly unconnected ideas into cool concepts.

💎 When captivated, I get deep into focus and can do a week’s work in half a day. 

💎 Present me with a complex problem (and especially if you tell me it’s not solvable), and I’ll be scanning all corners of my brain for all the pieces of the answer. I will find the solution. 

💎 I’m drawn to figuring out how can I do this in a better way, a faster way, in a way that’s never been done before.

This is my “disordered” brain. The neurodivergent / generalist brain. 


It’s quite stubborn too and doesn’t always want to play ball. 

😎 Doesn’t always want to focus (especially if it doesn’t see the point in what is being asked).

😎 Goes into overwhelm when there’s too much noise, light, BS (there’s a lot of that in this world).

😎 Isn’t very good at time management and prioritisation (but perhaps the pace of life is just out of control). 


When I worked in corporate, I 100% felt like my brain was disordered because everything above wasn’t valued. 

Now I work for myself doing what I love and care about, my brain no longer feels disordered. 

By changing the context of your work, it can change your perspective from “disordered brain” to “thriving brain”. 

There’s nothing wrong with you. It’s just the context is working against you. 

Create a context where your brain can be itself.

I know many see little value in what I have to say. 

About doing the inner work.

And how that contributes to transforming the state of the world.

It’s fluffy BS.

I sometimes see it in people’s faces. That smirk when I talk about what I do, as if it’s inferior to typical capitalism-aligned jobs. 

The inner work is the most important thing every human can do. I stand by that with everything I’ve got. 

The world is sick and that’s because we are sick. 

We are sick because we’re running exhausted on a treadmill in search for external validation, constant convenience and comfort and we doing every damned thing not to feel. 

We’re sentient beings. We’re supposed to feel. That’s the whole bloody point. To feel and experience the whole of life. 

There’s no shortage of ways to heal yourself. 
1. Therapy 
2. EMDR/somatic experiencing 
3. Coaching 
4. Mindfulness/meditation/yoga
5. Ayahuasca/psilocybin/ketamine therapy 
6. Learn about attachment theory 
7. Learn about poly vagal theory and the freeze state 
8. Get tested for ADHD/autism/CPTSD if you think you need to and it will help
9. Quit booze and if you’re an alcoholic start AA and the 12 steps 
10. Be in service - volunteer, start a group, reach out to those struggling around you 

Take your pick! It’s not just for yourself but a responsibility we have to each other. Including our children and the younger generations.

I'm an alien stranded on the wrong planet.

That’s what my close friends and I often joke about ourselves.

👽 How can so many prioritise money and power over love and connection?

👽 Why is society more interested in celebrity gossip than grappling with the truths of our existence?

👽 Isn't it baffling how most humans view themselves as separate from nature, entitled to take, take, take without considering the consequences?

👽 How is it that we're walking around with these incredibly complex brains, yet so many allow themselves to be led like sheep?

👽 Perhaps most perplexing of all, why do people go to such lengths to avoid facing who they truly are? 

We all look pretty much the same. Yet what goes on inside that brain of ours is wildly different for each of us. 8 billion worlds.

I find it hard to talk about this topic on here 

Money.

It’s at the core of many discussions on LinkedIn, and my perspectives often diverge from the mainstream.

I coach people to change career or start a business. Many want to make more money. But also to have more freedom and to make a positive impact.

On one hand I think this can ring true: “Do what you love and the money will come”.

I mean, it’s happened to me. I make more money as a coach than I did in my highest paying job. 

But it’s more nuanced than that for me. What resonates with me more profoundly is the notion of simplifying your life to gain freedom of choice. 

👉🏼 Get a smaller house 
👉🏼 Get a smaller car (or have no car)
👉🏼 Buy things secondhand 
👉🏼 Stop with all the takeouts/coffee 
👉🏼 Take local holidays 

There are a lot of people trapped in crappy jobs because they’ve maxed out on a high-cost life. 

For some, downgrading their life would mean they could choose a meaningful career path. 

Plus this lifestyle shift aligns with broader concerns that our obsession with more material wealth is destroying our biosystems and the future of our species and all other species.

Yes, we need money to meet basic needs, but it has a limited impact on overall happiness beyond a certain threshold. True contentment stems from aligning our priorities with what truly matters to us.

What matters right now 

In a world that’s disturbingly dysfunctional 

😳 Where genocide has become the accepted norm 
😳 The rain is pouring, the fires are burning and the crops are failing 
😳 The corruption of those in power is ramping up
😳 The ice is melting, air and sea temperatures are increasing at a faster rate than before 
😳 Mental health struggles are off the charts as more and more people can’t cope living in an insane world 


So what matters right now:

That you start adapting your mindset to treat nature as if it is you. Because it is you. Your are part of nature. Every action you take that harms nature, harms you and all those you love. 

Get your head out of the sand. This is real. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s not a later problem. It’s happening. In 2023, the signs became unignorable. Yet many are still ignoring reality. 

Do what you need to become more resilient. Face your demons. Resolve conflict in relationships. Practice acceptance and learn to live from a place of compassion. Therapy, coaching, mindfulness. Whatever does it for you. 

Create community in your lives. We’ve become so individualistic that we have very little support around us. Start small. Get to know your neighbours. Reach out to those who might be struggling. Set up a local group. 

Downgrade your life. We’ve been living on credit for too long. The way you’re living your life is not sustainable. Mother Nature cannot fund your life as it is. Reduce the load.

I’ve changed my name and lost 4000 followers

You’re heard it right. I now have 1800 followers instead of 5800.

This happened after I changed my name last week. Don’t get too excited. I just took the space out of my surname. 

Now it reads as it does on my birth certificate. A few years ago I went down the Ancestry rabbit hole to learn more about my ancestral roots.

I discovered my great-great grandfather Alberico Del Signore moved from Trevi nel Lazio to London in 1910 and when he did so his surname got anglicised along the way.

I decided to put it back to its original format and that’s the name I go by except on official documents. 

LinkedIn got me with the “you’ll get 60% more views when you get verified.” I’ve thrown authenticity in the bin for more business 😁

So, anyhow after I did that, my follower count plummeted 😱

Apparently it’s just a glitch on the numbers, says LinkedIn. The followers are all still there and the count will reconcile in the coming days. 

Phew, I’ve not been cancelled (yet) 😝

What a bloody nightmare.

Trying to find a coach. There’s a lot of scepticism around coaching and negative stories attached to this space. 

Rightly so, because anyone can become a coach with zero training and little life or work experience. 

Also this work involves two people who don’t know each other coming together to collaborate intimately. Some gel together better than others.

However, I've had the fortune of working with three incredible coaches by following this guidance:

📌 Relationship and chemistry

This is hands down the most important consideration. Listen to your gut. How do you feel in the presence of this person? Can you envision building trust with them?

📌 Background 

Consider whether the coach's background aligns with your coaching goals. For instance, as a career and business coach with experience across various sectors from start-ups to big tech, and government to non-profits, I bring a deep understanding of the landscape to my coaching sessions. Plus I have built my own successful business.

📌 Avoid Grand Promises

I'm wary of coaches who guarantee big results. Success in coaching is a collaborative effort, and while we guide clients, their commitment to the process is crucial for achieving goals. 

The most successful clients are curious, open and willing to express what is and isn’t working.

📌 Testimonials

Check out the coach’s testimonials to get a sense of the kind of coach they are and the results their clients have experienced. 

Look out for both internal and external transformation e.g. overcoming limiting beliefs vs starting a business.

📌 Training and certification 

There’s a lot of talk on here that discredits coach training as being important. I disagree 100% on this. While many of us have a natural inclination for coaching, proper training is vital to address patterns such co-dependency, trying to fix, giving advice, superficial listening skills and ethical topics such as confidentiality. 

I wouldn’t touch a coach who hasn’t undergone rigorous training and invests in ongoing education.

📌Overcoming Struggle

The most empathetic, understanding and resilient people among us tend to be those who have faced challenges in life and had to dig deep to navigate their way through. 

So my preference is always a coach who knows what it’s like to emerge from the pits of despair!

Finding the right coach can be intimidating. So take your time, speak to a few different coaches until you find the one that feels right.

Generalists have their own way of thinking

We approach problem-solving in a different way to specialists., And hallelujah for that! Imagine how dull it would be if we all thought the same.

I used to wonder why in my specialist role, it wasn’t valued that my brain got excited by:

🧠 Exploring new ways of doing things
🧠 Connecting ideas and concepts outside of my scope of work
🧠 Finding new problems that needed solving
🧠 Networking with people across the business to understand the bigger vision
🧠 Launching new projects but not wanting to be the person that did all the detail work

It was only when I stumbled upon the term, “generalist” 5 years ago, that it all clicked into place. My brain type wasn’t suited to specialist roles. It made me feel boxed in and unable to use my brain to its full capacity. 

So let me share how our brains think differently, cos it’s super interesting.

💡 Specialists typically use convergent thinking, also known as linear thinking. Their minds are wired to use logic and critical thinking to pinpoint the best solution or answer to a problem.

💡 In contrast, generalists lean towards divergent thinking. This involves generating multiple ideas or solutions, akin to brainstorming, without fixating on finding the "correct" answer. 

Once this phase is complete, the ideas can be organised and structured using convergent thinking—this is where our specialist friends come in.

💡 And then there's lateral thinking, an extension of divergent thinking, where we not only explore numerous options but also consider out-of-the-box and unconventional ideas.

Understanding this distinction is going to help you especially if you’ve undervalued your skills, as I did. You'll be better equipped to advocate for yourself in your career and land roles that keep your mind engaged.

This is horrifying. 

What’s horrifying to me is how hidden this is in the news. More attention is given to celebrity trash than to the fact we are already on the path towards devastation of our natural world and civilisation. 

It’s not a future thing. It’s a now thing. 

All that rain, those forest fires, the unusual temperatures. That is climate change. Crop failure is happening all over the world right now. Crops = our food. 

Whenever I post something like this I get a backlash of DMs and comments that this is fake news and that I’m scaremongering. The truth is the truth. 

Share this, talk about it, spread the awareness. Nothing can be done when 90% of the population are not aware of it.
