As marketing administrator, I worked with team members in sales, development, and all other departments in an effort to garner new sales opportunities and improve upon existing client relationships.

Responsible for project management of a new corporate website, marketing events/conferences, and email campaigns.

I was responsible for the integration & maintenance of marketing automation platforms at Medata. We used Pardot and ACT-ON. I acted as the CRM administrator for SugarCRM, although we started in Salesforce.

Last night was the first of our four dinners on the "Road to MOpza," and what an incredible evening it was. The feedback from our attendees was amazing, and I am so honored to have the opportunity to be in the company of so many great community members. As I was revisiting the results of the latest State of the Marketing Operations Professional report, a compelling picture emerges that every CMO should see. 

According to the study, 88% of organizations with over $10 million in annual revenue now have a dedicated Marketing Operations team.

This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a call to action.

Want to achieve the success of the high performing GTM team’s sporting 10M+ in revenue?

Invest in MOps.

Marketing Operations isn’t just about managing tools and tech.

It’s the nexus for data-driven decision making, integrating marketing strategies across channels and measuring impact with precision.

Our findings show that teams are getting smaller, yet the demand for high-quality, data-driven decision-making is not just maintaining but increasing.

The role of Marketing Operations is not just a function but a strategic driver.

Yet, despite this critical role, 21% of Marketing Operations professionals feel they are not compensated fairly for their contributions — with a notable compensation gender gap. 😡 please, do better!

Back in 2015 I was a team of 1 and it’s the primary reason I started a blog and a Slack channel for MOps.

But this post isn’t about that story… though I guess I have my past experience to thank for where we are as a community today ❤️ (Silver lining)

It’s common for a marketing ops team across a wide range of company sizes.

But data, as always, doesn’t represent an opinion of good or bad. 

Our 2023 data showed an increase in solo teams YoY.

“The prevalence of solo marketing operations professionals has increased, with 31% of respondents indicating they work alone. This is up from 25% in the previous year…”

In my opinion, the increase in solo teams was certainly not companies hiring for the first time, but creating smaller teams and “getting lean” during the wave of layoffs we had seen in the SaaS / Tech sector, which most of our community and survey respondents tend to come from.

I also feel (as I’m sure many do) this is a severe underinvestment in a MOps team.

If your marketing team has grown you should scale your MOps support proportionally. Even if that means contracting more help! 

I recently spoke to a teamand community member who has one MOps person trying to enable 15+ Marketing and Sales reps. 

The backlog is long. The “fires” or plentiful. And the leadership has great asipiration for their GTM team. But there is just NO way to get there when the count of MO Pros to execute the work is one☝️to (15) many.

Here are some data points form the research we did for those that are curious: 

Distribution of Team Sizes 1 or 2-10 by Company Revenue:

	•	$10 million or less: 44% are solo; 46% have 2 to 10 members.

	•	$10.1 million to $100 million: 42% are solo; 53% have 2 to 10 members.

	•	$100.1 million to $500 million: 18% are solo; 73% have 2 to 10 members.

	•	More than $500 million: 6% are solo; 51% have 2 to 10 members; and significant numbers are found in larger team categories, reflecting the scale and complexity of operations at larger enterprises.

What do you think is the appropriate ratio for a MOps team and a team of marketers?

Use case example: 
There is a single contract for $20k but are many projects to use that budget spread out over 4 months:

- Custom object?
- New Reporting Pipeline "Deals" and just build reports manually associating records?
- Some mix of associating deals to deals and then reporting on them?
