Here’s something most parents rarely hear out loud-

Here’s the wild part…
We used to make our priorities so insanely obvious without a second thought.

We would literally put our “Top 7” on Myspace like it was the most normal thing in the world (somehow, it just was though?)

^^ life felt way more simplistic then or so it seems.

Now? ☝🏼
Does it not feel as though we are all so damn busy managing optics that half the relationships we maintain aren’t true partnerships whatsoever?

One might be so bold to say they’re performances…because a lot are just that. 

It makes me wonder:
If this whole concept of your Top 7 was brought back to life today- 

1/ how many people would be shocked by where they actually stand?
2/ how many would quietly move up?
3/ and how many would realize they were never on the list at all?
4/ how much clarity + honesty would we get?…


(Real talk you already know who your true ‘Top 7’ are. Aka the ones you’d call at 2am if needed, not the humans you tag between pique algo boosting hours here…true?)


All said, I’d say this is a solid partnership play! ✌🏼

When was the last time you were in a conversation and realized you weren’t actually ‘there’?

One part of you listening…
the other part trying to hold onto everything happening in real time.

That split drains more energy than people care to admit…the fatigue of modern work if you will. 

The expectation to stay fully present while your brain runs background processes on every detail, every shift, every signal…

This all hit me big time during a partner convo recently- 
They were sharing something they found wildly meaningful.

Yes, I was tuned in…
Yet, still keeping mental tabs on the nuance that actually matters…

- the tone drop
- the subtle change in intent
- the one line someone says that reveals more than they realize

Those moments shape outcomes in my world…(and I’m not interested in showing up halfway)


So, I changed my approach. ☝🏼

1/ In-person meetings:
I record them now.

Not to archive the conversation
but to free myself to actually be in it.
…the kind of listening that only happens when you’re not holding every detail hostage in your head.

2/ Virtual calls: 
Zoom and Teams get captured quietly in the background.

-No bots joining
-No interruptions
-No noise
…just space to lead and read the room without splitting myself in two.

And the biggest shift wasn’t efficiency…
It was presence.
A much sharper version of it.

^^ where you catch truth in real time because your mind isn’t busy protecting information.

I didn’t get faster.
I got clearer.
More intuitive.
More aware of what people actually mean with the words they say-  

Once you clear the mental clutter, your intelligence finally has somewhere to land. 

Y’all, your mind isn’t “tired” of the work- 
Your brain is literally doing the job of three people: listener, recorder, interpreter…all at once.

(No one performs at their best like that)

Something I’ve learned recently is this:
I don’t want to be balanced.

Balance sounds polite.
Predictable.
Like a scale someone else is watching to see if it tips in a way.

Instead?
I want to be aligned.

Because alignment doesn’t chase equilibrium…
It builds integrity.
It’s when what you say and what you do finally walk at the same pace- not an easy feat to accomplish, ps.

My friend Morgan J Ingram prob doesn’t remember even saying this to me years ago but it stuck with me-
He said he’s not a fan at all of the word balance.
And he’s right…(as much as him and I both know how difficult that is to even type that out)

Balance makes it sound like work <> life are on opposite sides of a seesaw.
But when you’re building something that matters, intentionally, they’re on the same side.

Listen- you can’t weigh passion and peace like currency
you just learn when to let each one lead.

So if this week didn’t feel balanced in your world but it felt aligned with what you’re meant to be doing…
You’re winning in ways most people will never track.

^^ being aware is key here to grasp this concept.

Q- what word do you use instead of “balance”?

Truly a wild reality teams seem to avoid?

Marketing keeps trying to understand buyers- but is skipping over the people who already sat across from them when it mattered + relationships were established + rev was generated.

We pour time into persona decks
Journey maps
Tooling
Another “ideal message workshop”/meeting about a meeting
Another brainstorm sesh with the same voices in the room

While other “there”…former sellers already hold the patterns everyone else is trying to recreate from spreadsheets. (Ahh)

And the teams actually gaining real traction?
The ones who stopped overcomplicating everything and brought sellers into marketing. 

Everything changes when you do- 

1. Messaging finally sounds like humans, not generated ridiculous headlines-
Sellers write from lived conversations, that absolutely is a different league.
They tap into real buyer language…not marketing dialect (not negative about that, but truth talking) 
That alone puts you in a winning position.

2. Campaigns shift from “good idea” to “pipeline driver”-
Former sellers build from patterns/objections/timing/nuance/truth.
They design demand around what buyers actually respond to…
Not what we hope they might.

3. Creative hits harder because it comes from people who’ve earned attention the hard way
Sellers learn fast: if you don’t make someone feel something, you lose them.
Bring that energy into marketing and everything sharpens.

4. Data stops being a safety net and becomes a multiplier-
Sellers understand momentum.
They know when the numbers tell the story…and when the story is happening between them
That’s the difference between motion and movement.

5. Alignment becomes default, not a quarterly intervention-
Drop one seller into marketing and suddenly sales and marketing stop posturing.
They operate with shared reality, shared language, shared stakes.
You can feel the shift immediately.

Most companies are out here hunting for “GTM unicorns” 
The real unicorn? = the person who’s carried a number
and can turn buyer psychology straight into demand strategy.

IF I were building a marketing team tomorrow…
someone with sales DNA is one of my first hires.

No doubt.

Curious:
Would adding a seller into marketing solve your biggest gap…
OR expose the one no one’s naming out loud?


(ps…save this, someone on your team hopefully is going to bring it up in the next pipeline review, etc)

We’ve turned growth into an aesthetic-
have we not?

And to me…it’s (already has) started to show.

I’ve sat in a good amount of GTM rooms to know when something isn’t “mathing”

Truly, I don’t math. I just girl math, if you will. 
And none of this is mathing the way we say it does.

Seems as though a bunch are still chasing “more” like it’s a strategy.
aka: More leads. More meetings. More pipeline.

But- if acquisition costs keep climbing
while retention keeps getting deprioritized
+ churn stays steady at 3.5%
+ NRR barely clears 104%
+ top performers are the only ones touching 118%

then…by my (solid) girl math logic =
we’re literally spending more to stand still.

So that’s not growth…and correct me if I’m wrong…I’d say that’s exhaustion faked as progress.

The math isn’t broken. The mindset is.

The teams that win this year won’t be the ones moving fastest (don’t play Goggins when that’s not you)
They’ll be the ones still standing when everyone else burns out…

Because: scale isn’t about adding more.
It’s about learning how to stay when everyone else is sprinting to leave.


Real Q…
what’s the first thing in your org that needs to start…”mathing?”

I realized something recently that I wish I caught sooner…

Most people think their biggest problem is reach, right?
It’s not.

It’s the foundation they’re building their relationships on.

I’m relationship-first. Always have been…

But one morning I was looking at my engagement, and the swings were too “what’s happening”/big to ignore…

Same intention. Same consistency.
Completely different visibility depending on whatever the platform decided to amplify that day.

 The em-dash (I just learned that’s the name, side note)

We all see it, we notice it, we note it, we ignore what was sent to us 9/10x. 

Sam Altman even called it out on X by saying, "small-but-happy win: if you tell ChatGPT not to use em-dashes in your custom instructions, it finally listens.”

Truly love this for all of us. 
So let’s fix it.

How to in 5 steps, under 1 minute:

1/ Open your GPT settings
2/ Click your name or profile
3/ Go to “Personalization”
4/ Open “Custom instructions”
5/ Type: “Don’t use any em dashes”

And you're done.
Cleaner writing...more trust...out with the robotic sounding (not) you. 

Tip:
- add more rules
- one per line
^^ this is how you train GPT into your voice, not “a voice"

Tip 2:
- update your memory monthly
- keep what strengthens your output
- eliminate/remove what doesn’t

Tiny tweak and a huge credibility lift. That's called #winning.
People are way more inclined to notice you by not noticing the em-dashes.
