I call big fat whopping bullsh*t.
Here's my VERY HONEST experience...

ADHD is a disability.

It’s not a quirky personality trait.

It’s a brain rewiring with real, structural differences that affect how we think, feel and function.

It means constant battles with:

- Emotional regulation
- Behavioural control
- Time management
- Impulse control
- Adaptability
- Focus

+ more.

If you don't know this - or lack the privilege of finding out via therapy / a diagnosis...

You suffer in silence.

Here's how my ADHD has/ does affect me:

→ I've left conferences via fire exits before - when sensory overload (noise, people, touch) is so overwhelming - my body temp soars and I feel like I'm going to collapse.

→ I've called my friend 48 hours into a dream 30 day workation hysterical, realising I've lost all structure, routine and predictability - which led to insomnia, addictive relapses and dysregulation.

→ I've had an eating disorder because I hyperfocused TOO HARD and got so interested in health/diet that it became obsessive. My all-or-nothing thinking (typical of ADHDers) led to an unhealthy relationship with food.

→ I struggle with stillness - my baseline dopamine levels are so low - I need constant stimulation (movement helps). So if I'm on a train/plane you'll see me pace up and down 15x times in frustration.

→ I went 52 hours without sleep once because I was so deprived of dopamine that my all-or-nothing thinking led me to chase it unhealthily (= serious illness / burnout).

That’s ADHD when your needs aren’t met.

When you lose:

Routine
Novelty
Structure
Flexibility
Movement
Connection
Predictability
Accountability

(All the things that get us 'interested' and that keep our dopamine levels high enough).

But when those needs ARE met?

That’s when the “superpower” thing makes sense.

Because that brain in the right environment can:

- Built a website in 16 hours flat out
- Work 12 hr days and still have energy for gym
- Write a month's worth of LinkedIn posts in a day
- Launch a business from scratch in 4 weeks
- Paint/decorate the entire house in a few days
- Write, create + launch a lead magnet in 6 hours
- Walk 25k steps a day like it’s nothing

I think of any task as a recipe. 

When all the ingredients / measurements are correct...

The end result is brill!!

But when one thing isn't right...

The whole thing (e.g. your ability to focus, sleep, communicate, etc.) can be thrown off balance.

When it works, it really works.

But let’s stop pretending ADHD is a “gift” you just unwrap.

It’s a wiring.

One that can destroy you if you don’t understand it.

And transform you if you do.

You don’t “fix” ADHD.

You learn it.
You work with it.
You build around it.

I’m still learning mine.

Still figuring it out.

But if ADHD feels “hard” right now and not like the "superpower" the internet keeps trying to sell you...

I’ve missed her way too much.

So I’ve packed my laptop, 5 bags of veggie Haribos (at Karla's request) and whatever else I threw into my suitcase, blurry-eyed this morning!

This'll be an 18 hour trip...

So wish me luck! 😂

PS. If she doesn't greet me at the airport with 50 fresh roses, I'll turn around and fly straight back.

So far I have my colouring book and pens, a book (The Testaments by Margaret Atwood), 3 podcast episodes downloaded (Bold Politics with Zack Polanski), Lily Allen's new album saved and if all else fails... sleeping pills 🤣

Reminder: Get out into the world and do the stuff you dream of AS YOU BUILD  your career.

Don't wait until retirement to embrace life.

That's my new goal.

Yesterday, I met up with 2 mates.

You might recognise them...

 We booked a spontaneous boat trip to a tiny (pretty unknown) island in Indonesia.

Did some bucket list sh*t.

Made memories that will last forever.

P.S. Don't get so lost in working that you forget what you're actually working for.

Self-help content changed my life for the better.
Until it started f*cking with my ADHD brain.
And then it was dangerous!!!

6 months ago...

My personality was “self-improvement.”

And I won't bullsh*t you...

It worked.

- Lost 10kg in 5 months
- Doubled my revenue
- Woke up at 4.30am

But I didn’t understand my ADHD / autism then.

I'd wake up...

And FEED on “optimise your life” content:

→ Between gym sets
→ On the walk to get coffee
→ Even while brushing my teeth

Each video promised a better version of me.

The problem?

ADHD brains are wired for intensity.

We don’t dabble. We go ALL in.

When something interests us, our dopamine spikes. We enter hyperfocus, a state where time disappears.

So we can neglect our other needs (rest, sleep, relationships, etc).

The quick dopamine feels good.

Even if it's artificial i.e. from watching a video about productivity whilst we're *actually* procrastinating.

This is what I experienced.

I was obsessed with:

Improving myself.
Tracking everything. 
Measuring everything.

Calories, macros, step counts, wake-up times etc.

I got so into “health” 
→ I developed an eating disorder.

I got so into "productivity", 
→ I slept 4-5 hrs a night.

I got so into "optimisation", 
→ I wasn't able to sit still.

The “DO MORE / BE BETTER / WAKE UP AT 4AM” content was frying my dopamine circuits.

Even good self-help content can be destructive when you consume it without a clear purpose.

You optimise for the sake of it.

Most of it is engineered like a slot machine.

Video titles = dopamine traps.

- “15 hacks to save 7 hours a week in 15 minutes”
- “How to become unrecognisable in 30 days”
- “10 health mistakes that will KILL you”

You've seen 'em right??

They're all perfectly designed to trigger your brain’s reward centre and keep you scrolling.

And who's selling them?

Mostly young privileged guys. 

- Single and no kids
- Financially secure
- No dependents
- In great health

Preaching habits that aren’t realistic.

But that make you feel 'guilty' if you don't do them.

Over the last few months, I realised...

I don't need any more self-help content.

No more podcasts
No more books
No more videos

I needed to slow down.

To stop creating more to-dos.

To sit quietly with my own thoughts.

To be selective about the advice I take on.

So?

I chose 2-3 focus areas that mattered to me and I work on them and them only.

In moderation.

I'm treating self-help as a menu I can pick from (and not feeling obliged to do it all).

It helps that I now understand my neurotype.

Thanks to therapy & coaching.

The thing is...

Self-help content is powerful.

It can change your life. 
But it can also TAKE OVER it.

So if you find yourself drowning in it...

Ask yourself: Is it ACTUALLY serving you?

If it is? Keep going.
If not? Re-evaluate.

"Hey Shoaib, can I take a longer lunch today so I can go for a run? It gets dark by 5pm and I don’t feel safe running in my local park after work.”

A WhatsApp I got from my employee.
(female, 25, flat-sharing at the time)

I obviously said...

"Absolutely!!!"

Big wake up call for me.

It hit me how much privilege I’ve had in never needing to think about something that basic - like whether I can run outside without worrying about my safety.

It sucks that SO MANY companies still refuse to allow employees to work flexible hours.

Policies for the sake of policies.
(Makes no sense to me!)

In this case...

All Charl wanted was to be able to go for a run and not have to look over her shoulder in the winter months (when British daylight lasts 8am-4pm from Nov-Feb).

Not a big ask.

She started her day earlier.
Got ahead with the workload.
Took a long lunch + went for a run.

No issue.

But really...

I dread to think how many people (because guys can feel unsafe too) would just skip the run because a stubborn employer wouldn't allow them flex.

If you say you're an 'inclusive' employer...

I hope you're offering this type of flexibility for your employees and not just virtue-signalling.

7 things I thought were totally ordinary...
But turns out are VERY ADHD/autistic.


Anyone else do these?? 👇🏼😂


1/ Sitting at the exact same table and chair (must have a backrest and textured seating - not hardwood) every day at the cafe shop you work in - and literally going to a different cafe if that seat is taken.

2/ Eating the same food on repeat for weeks. I had the same dinner (Shepherd's pie & salad) every night for 3 weeks. Before that? It was peri peri chicken and salad (literally every night for 4 weeks!!)

3/ Needing to plan your entire day (hour by hour) the night before so you can mentally prepare for things like travel, socialising, eating times, etc. I do this to avoid having 'empty space' in my day because then I know I'll be super restless and annoying to everyone.

4/ Being able to work incredibly fast on some things (paint your entire house in 3 days in bright colours), but spending 9 months to do very minor tasks you find boring (like change a lightbulb - so you just default to using your phone torch instead).

5/ Leaving all your booking admin last minute. Train tickets, plane tickets, hotel visits -  they usually get booked a few days before... RIP to my finances, but unless *the thing* is literally that week, in my head... It's years away, so I don't need to worry about it.

6/ Finding one thing by chance and making it your entire personality (for the 2 weeks that it interests you). Then doing that thing non-stop until you can't do it anymore and then you move onto something else. Example? Binge-watching all 6 series of Interior Design Masters in 10 days and watching nothing else. Another example? Buying £150 binoculars to bird watch everywhere you go after seeing a toucan in Colombia once.

7/ Forgetting to drink water and having none all day. Or drinking about 3 litres in 3 hours. No in-between.


P.S. What's your version of this? 😅

I know I'm successful and fulfilled in life because of these 8 things (hi 👋🏽 I'm a 26 year old from Yorkshire).


1/ I have a small but more than sufficient circle of close friends - more like family tbh. They cheerlead me on and genuinely want to see me win (and vice versa).

2/ I get to pack up my laptop and work from wherever I choose. This year I've worked from 13 different cities, 6 countries, 94 coffee shops and 5 friends' houses.

3/ I'm able to afford a gym membership (which is a 10-minute walk from my apartment) and I can leisurely spend 2 hours in there - without feeling rushed or 'pressure'.

4/ I no longer have to stop myself from buying small luxuries or feeling like I have to justify purchases e.g. last-minute flights, Ubers, a cleaner, £5.78 lattes.

5/ I can do spontaneous things like take a day off work to go on a day trip with my friend to cheer him up, or spend time 'offline' with friends, on hikes, out in nature.

6/ I understand my au-ADHD brain and can afford a neurodivergent-specialist therapist to help me work with my neurotype (rather than be 24/7 disabled by it).

7/ I co-own a property but have the luxury of using it as a base, rather than a location I'm tied to. I can travel freely and prioritise adventure/memories > things.

8/ I have an amazing client base - some I've worked with for 3+ years (and others come back every few months for more work/support). Strong trust and alignment.


None of this is glam.

None of it requires millions in the bank.
Or millions of social media followers.

But it’s mine.

It’s a life by design.

Step 1? Build a base level of financial security.

Step 2? Know when to slow the hustle.

Then invest in:

🌎 Travel & adventure
💪🏽 Health & movement
🧠 Mental wellbeing
❤️ Relationships
🎨 Hobbies & creativity
📚 Learning & growth
🌿 Joy & fun

Because there’s more than one way to be rich.

And I’d rather be rich in life, peace, and fulfilment than rich ONLY in my bank account.

I met Hulk at the gym this morning.

The type of dude I usually avoid because he's 3x the width of me and would easily crush my skull between his thighs.

You know the one.

I'm lying horizontally on a bench.

Mid-set, failing HARD on a dumbbell press - in that moment where the weight’s stuck halfway up and you’re like: 

“Yeah… this is where I die.”

So I drop the dumbbells onto my chest, take a breath, glance up…

And there he is.

A man who MUST eat bricks for breakfast.

We make eye contact in the mirror.

I look away.

(the autism awkwardness kicking in)

But he keeps staring.

I'm thinking "okay.... this is weird."

 And then he slowly mouths:

“YOU. HAVE. GOT. THIS.”

Then he does that aggressive nod men do when they’re trying to transfer confidence telepathically.

(I know you know the one haha).

I nodded back.

And suddenly I was like...

“Okay wow, mystery strong gym man believes in me - let me not embarrass myself.”

I pushed up the weights again.

Did eight additional reps.

EIGHT.

Big fat lesson learned.

Even when you think you’re giving your all…

You’ve still got MORE in the tank.

I consider myself a disciplined guy.
 
The “push yourself”, be delusionally ambitious type of person.

But even I realised in that moment...

I nearly talked myself out of hitting a PB.

But when someone else is watching, supporting and nudging you?

You raise your standard.
You stretch your comfort zone.
You find an extra 20% your brain keeps hidden.

Lesson learned.

Accountability is a cheat code.

Find your person.

Text them.
Voice note them.
Pigeon them if you have to.

Tell them:

“Right - we’re doing this together.”

Whenever I've created 'accountability loops' in my life, I've smashed my targets faster.

So what I've learned from my new gym hero is...

Don't do everything alone.

Because eventually you'll hit a plateau (your comfort zone).

Or talk yourself out of doing the damn thing.

Keep pushing. Keep stretching.

Yesterday at 8.49pm, I got this message.

“R u free for a chat?"

(It was from a client).

My reaction?

“Oh dear... What’s happened?”

If you’re a freelancer, you might know this feeling.

And because I’m ADHD (prone to RSD), my brain does this fun thing where:

Mild uncertainty =

→ I've done something wrong.
→ The client hates me 
→ They’re firing me 
→ My life is over 

Goodbye everyone.

(Even though that's NEVER been the case).

I called the client.

Here’s what happened...


Client: “Hey, you’ve been absolutely killing my personal brand… and I want you to help my dad build his on LinkedIn.”

Me: "…I'm listening.”

Client: “Yeah, the last time you wrote a few posts for him, he got media invites and inbound opportunities.”

Me: "Right…"

Client: "I know you’ll smash it again. How soon can we start?"


And just like that…

Catastrophe brain → silenced.

For context:

I’ve worked with this client for 3.5 years.

When we started?

He had under 10K followers.

Now?

He’s at:

- 55K+ followers.
- 20M+ organic LinkedIn impressions.
- 30K+ average monthly LI profile visits

And he has a personal brand that directly fuels every part of his business.

His content has helped him:

Hire 20+ staff (inc. biz partners).
Secure 30+ media & PR opportunities.
Speak on stage (Web Summit + Harvard).
Build unreal brand equity in the AI industry.
Attract partnerships + deal flow + investment.
Invest in companies he discovered on his feed.

His goal was never “get leads.”

It was INFLUENCE.

(Because that feeds into everything else).

I made LinkedIn the vehicle for it.

So much so, he wants me to share my magic with his dad.

There's no better compliment than someone saying, "I trust you so much I want you to HELP MY FAMILY.”

6 seemingly small (but actually life-changing) ways remote/hybrid & flexible work improves the average person’s life. THESE THINGS DO MATTER!!!


1/ You get your mornings back

Not to optimise your 4am routine. (Unless that's what you're idea of a good morning looks like). But more so, to do whatever you want. A 45-min hitt class, walking the dogs, making eggs on toast in your own kitchen instead of quickly scoffing an energy bar at your desk. Or getting an extra hour of sleep because you aren’t battling the A406 at rush hour.

2/ You stop haemorrhaging money

No £178.65 train from X to Y. No £4.90 burnt cappuccinos from Pret. No “Sorry I’m late, parking was £18.” Plus, outside of the commute and food costs, you can book mid-week flights or off-peak stays for HALF the price because you’re not tied to being physically present in a building 5 days a week. And the childcare costs... omg don't even get me started on those!!

3/ You actually have time for LIFE

Need a last min emergency GP appointment? Pipes froze and you need to wait for your boiler guy to get heating again? Have a parcel that you need to be in for? If you're forced in an office 5 days a week, everything else gets shoved into weekends. So they're used for life admin. When *actually* weekends are supposed to be for rest / fun.

4/ It supports neurodivergent brains

I'm au-ADHD. I work 3x faster when in an optimal environment that I can curate. Things like lighting, room temp, noise, background music, smells etc. all can impact people's ability to work / focus. No two people are the same. And we all have natural 'productive' peaks (some of us are AM people, others are PM). Why force everyone to work in one way if it's actually hindering their ability to produce optimal results? Makes no sense.

5/ You eat like a functioning adult

Microwave pasta in a Tupperware is not it. And who the f*ck leaves eggy tuna sandwiches in the office fridge for days on end?? Not fun. At home, you can: meal prep, eat fresh food, save money and actually digest your lunch instead of inhaling it at your desk while pretending to smile at colleagues walking past or feeling awkward about the way you're shovelling a sandwich down your gullet.

6/ You can parent like a human being

Okay for transparency, I don't have kids. But most of my clients do. And they tell me that some flex/hybridity is a life changer. It means they can do school drop-offs, attend 2pm parents evenings, SEE their kids more often, be more present in family life and do all that without the guilt of 'not being there' or burning out trying to be everyone all at once.


Everyone is happier when they’re treated like adults.

It helps us be better parents, healthier humans, calmer thinkers, more creative problem-solvers, more present partners, and ironically... 

Far more productive workers!

This isn't “people not wanting to work.”

It’s people wanting to work well WITHOUT sacrificing their lives in the process.

It's a no brainer to me 🤷🏽‍♂️

2022: 'How will I get an ACTUAL paying client?'
2025: *Signed my 200th paying client*

2022: "Why would anyone follow me?"
2025: *Hit 60,000 LinkedIn followers*

2022: "Will people take me seriously?"
2025: *Guest lecturing at universities*

2022: “How do I price this? £50?? £100??”
2025: *Charge £750/hr without blinking*

2022: “I’m scared to put myself out there.”
2025: *Invited as an 'influencer' to global events*

2022: “What if I mess up on camera?”
2025: *Filmed my 30th podcast appearance*

Listen as I say this...

Every question, doubt or concern you have right now (no matter how big or small) NEEDS to go in the bin.

Because in a few years 
(or even months)...

You'll look back on and think...

"Easy peasy lemon f*cking squeezy."

Never underestimate what you can do when you:

a) Set yourself an ambitious target
b) Do the reps, every day, consistently
c) Burn your boats and go all in 

Today is a good day to make cool sh*t happen.

12 months ago on this day, I was lying on a beach in Gran Canaria with a 12-inch pizza box (that had gone cold) when Karla and I wrote a word on a tiny little whiteboard.

When I signed my first client...

(on this weird lil platform called LinkedIn)

I only had 3,871 followers.
My best post had 87 likes.

On average, I got 20-30 likes.

Not much.

Definitely not 'big creator' or 'industry thought leader' level.

With ZERO paid ads or cold emails.

Just organic LinkedIn posts.

So I've learned a few things about selling on LinkedIn.

I've tested strategies directly across 80+ LinkedIn accounts (for my clients: founders, coaches, creators, etc.)

What ACTUALLY makes people buy?

Here are the 5 SALES LEVERS to pull:


1. Amplify ICP pains.

People buy when the cost of staying stuck becomes unbearable. Use content to agitate what happens if a prospect's pain continues.

→ How much time are they wasting?
→ What’s it doing to their confidence?
→ What’s the missed revenue this quarter?

Use specific numbers. Create a cost of inaction!


2. Make the solution believable.

No one buys into vague phrases like “scale your business." They buy into contextualised stories and tangible desirable outcomes. 

Show them what “better” looks & feels like.

Replace “grow your following” 
→  with “turn profile views into engaged leads.”

Replace “clarify your brand” 
→  with “get 3 ideal prospects reaching out weekly.”

People buy on emotion, but JUSTIFY with logic. 

The more granular you get with the outcome (what this looks like on a P&L sheet), the better.

It also helps you win buy-in from decision-makers.


3. Show up as the guide, NOT the hero.

Don't sell your service.

Sell your BUYER'S TRANSFORMATION.

Position yourself as the person who helps the hero (your buyer) win.

→ You aren’t the prize.
→ You HELP THEM win the prize.

Position yourself as the bridge between where they are (i.e. stuck) vs where they want to be (their desired end point).


4. Plaster with proof.

Your job is to disarm sceptics. Build trust via screenshots, before vs after stats, testimonials, case study breakdowns, etc.

Buyers want to see evidence that your offer works for people like them (in their industry, with their pain points, who were in the position they're currently in).

Name customers & their roles 
Show profile pictures / tag them.
Include brand logos that trust you.

This lends credibility through association. 


5. Remove all guesswork.

People won't buy if they don’t know what happens next or if the buying process is convoluted. Don't create extra work.

Your offer must be frictionless:

 → Clear outcome
 → Clear process
 → Clear cost
 → Clear CTA

If they need to fill out a 7-step form to know your price... 

You’ve lost them. 

Make the buyer journey seamless to avoid churn!

I'm building a life of luxury at 26 years old.
Here's what it looks like today.

Waking up in 30*C heat and sunlight
Throwing my laptop into my backpack
Popping on a t-shirt, shorts & trainers
Jumping on the back of a motorbike
Enjoying a dragonfruit smoothie bowl
Working on my lil biz from a lush cafe
Going to the gym, sauna + cold plunge
Lying by the pool getting lost in a book
Heading for a massage in the evening
Going for a nice dinner out with friends

In 2022, I quit a job I stopped enjoying.

Why?

My career was in someone else's hands.

So I set up solo, built my brand and posted on LinkedIn every day (did this for nearly 2 years prior).

And now I get to live my luxurious life.

You might not think it's that luxe.

There are no supercars
No designer clothes
No $50k months

But I have these... 
(And I think they make me 10x richer).

1. The luxury of options.

To wake up and live a life I've designed...

Through intentional choices that I had full autonomy to make.

To not have to endure things just to:

- Survive in this economy
- Keep the lights on
- Satisfy others

I want the freedom to decide:

What my daily routine looks like.
How fast or slow I move.
Who I spend time with.
The type of work I do.
Where I work or live.

Options are a luxury you earn by doing the hard graft upfront (and then making smart choices) so you can stack financial security faster.


2. The luxury of time freedom.

My biggest fear?

Working my ass off (for 50+ years) just for 28 days of annual leave each year. 

I never want to ask anyone's 'permission' to:

Take a slow morning when I need it
To travel mid-week or for 3 months at a time
To be spontaneous and say "yes" at the last minute

The goal isn't to take "time off".

For me? 

It's to experience "time" on purpose.

And spend less time worrying that it's slipping away and being used on things I don't enjoy or find fulfilling.


3. The luxury of simplicity.

We live in a world that bombards us with ads, notifications, pressures...

It's hard. 

But I'm working towards a simpler life.

One without 87 things on my mind at once.

Where I can subtract (not add) to my to-do list.

Where I can shift from a state of "reactive busy" towards a state of peace, calm and intentionality.

Headspace > headaches.


4. The luxury of giving.

I'm privileged to be where I am at 26 (and grateful to those who helped me).

So I want to give back.

Not giving to get. 
Not giving with strings.

Just giving because I can.

It could be:

- Supporting a charity close to my heart
- Attending a protest for causes I care about
- Tipping drivers / service staff generously

Building a dream life for myself is fun.

But being able to enjoy it with others, use my privilege for good and spread joy is more fun.


And one more?

The luxury of stability in turbulence.

Because storms will come.

But now I have the financial buffer, resilience and confidence to ride them out.


P.S. What's your life of luxury look like?

A list of cool things I did last month.

1. Paid £50 to a random man in a field on a tiny island off Bali… to fly me over the ocean for ten minutes. In what you ask? Some tiny bike/parachute hybrid thing I reckon he built himself. 10/10 experience.

2. Ate 17 smoothie bowls in four weeks. Mango base is undefeated. Açaí comes second. Dragonfruit looks prettiest but tastes quite bland. My gut has never felt cleaner though.

3. Wrote 5 viral LinkedIn posts for my US SaaS founder client. All hyper-targeted and aligned to ICP. He closed a $3.1M raise right after. I’m not saying my work played a *big* role… but I’m also not not saying it.

4. Hit “live” on the cnnctd. “Life By Design Programme.” The feedback has been MEGA. People journaling, dreaming, planning, having lightbulb moments. Me and Karla screaming “THIS IS WHY WE BUILT IT.”

5. Wrapped up my 1:1 LinkedIn Growth Accelerator with 4 clients (a leadership speaker, a copywriter, a tech founder and DE&I consultant). All four gave me LOVELY testimonials!

6. Added "graphic designer" to my repertoire of skills. Please go admire my banner and featured section designs. I spent 4 hours creating them. Maybe I should offer this as a service??

7. Launched my speaker showreel (wonderfully edited by Ashley Povall Ⓥ) and built my speaker packs! Already started the 2026 booking process and in negotiations for some excited stage talks.

8. Beat Ethan Golding in an ice bath competition. Then sat in a jacuzzi discussing the purpose of life. 10/10 male bonding experience.

9. Welcomed back 3 returning clients who want to level up their LinkedIn game (an ADHD consultancy co-founder, a CEO of a real-estate firm and a sports marketplace founder).

10. Journalled for 3 hours with Sabeeka Ashraf in the Balinese sun. Spiritual clarity: 10/10. Mosquito bites: 46/10. Lesson = SPRAY YOURSELF!

11. Spent over 20 hours in the gym, 4 hours having massages and 6 hours hiking up a live volcano and eating some fried banana sandwiches at the top with my best friend and roomie Karla McNeilage.

12. Oh and I started boxing. Random. But fun.


Life feels FULL right now.

Business is fun.
My people are incredible.
My routines finally feel aligned.
There's a lot of room for spontaneity.
Every day is like a new adventure in life.

And I’m doing work I actually love.

I never understood what people meant when they used the word 'alignment' to describe their life before.

But I do now 💛
