Before Terrence proposed, one of my pastors said this, “Terrence, Chenae’ is made for the stage. She’s going to be elevated and be in the spotlight. Men can have a hard time with that. Are you ok with her being pushed into the spotlight?” His answer was, “I don’t mind supporting and partnering with Chenae’ in the shadows as long as she is doing it with me.” Terrence proposed that night. 

Since I’ve been with him, I’ve felt nothing but supported and loved. I’ve gotten his support and blessing with traveling and working long hours some days to constantly do what I love. I couldn’t ask for a better husband. Thank you for always being there baby. I love you. ❤️

I’ve been trying to come down from this TEDx high for two days. I haven’t slept much. I remember saying, “I want to do a TEDx but I don’t know how to go about it.” I met Eraina Ferguson at a Blacks In Technology RDU event and we started sharing stories. I had no clue that she was a TEDx curator. She posted an opportunity to participate as a speaker for TEDx Apex, I sent her a DM on LinkedIn and the next thing I know, I’m sitting in coaching sessions as a student until my script was complete. It’s interesting because before 2024 started, I told God I wanted to be a student this year. With TEDx Apex, I was able to be exactly that. 

All I’ve been thinking about is God telling me that it has been worth it. I’m not totally sure what will happen when it’s approved and posted. What I do know is nobody can stop what God has. 

P.S. For those of you who don’t think LinkedIn  works, I am proof that it does! It’s all in how you use it. And before you mention my network, LinkedIn is how I got my current job which was before I had a big network.

Cyrus Harbin (founder of Tech Is The New Black) was the first person to show me what it meant to served in a professional capacity and Yellowtail.tech founders Paloma Vilceus & Jubee Leroy Vilceus were two amazing people who cared to learn about little ole me. All three of them took time out of their busy schedules and flew to Raleigh, NC to support me on my first TEDx talk. I couldn’t feel more loved.

Not only have we supported what we all do, but we support who we all are. There is more power in this picture than I can explain. There are billionaire mindsets, incredible ROIs, and more knowledge about the tech industry in different sectors than you can imagine. We see one another as professionals but we also see each other people. My heart is so full. ❤️

✨When Black Women Show Up For Each Other✨

It’s important to remember the ppl who show up. The ppl who continued their journey when you felt like you failed.

When you all listen to my TEDx, I want you to remember Whitney McCrea, Sable K. Nelson, JD (She/Her), Angelica McDonald, Esq., & Alisha Benjamin. This is the study group I am referring to. While they continued with their law school matriculation, graduated, and became attorneys licensed in multiple states, I continued with school. And when it was my time, they came back to watch me graduate. My TEDx was no different. They were front and center. ❤️

When I became a recruiter and I started teaching people about job search strategy, they either came to me or sent people my way for advice. The best part of the story that I don’t share in my TEDx is while I’m the job search strategist of the study group, Whitney McCrea is my real estate agent (she’s also a licensed attorney in NC & SC) and Angelica McDonald, Esq. is my trademark attorney (she’s licensed in NC, has her LLM, and is a sports agent dedicated to helping HBCU Athletes get NIL deals through Rise HBCU). 

Keeping it all in the family is something God helped us achieve. 5 black women who have lifted each other up through losing loved ones, having babies, getting married, and new jobs. All of us are a product of NCCU School of Law. And if you didn’t pick up on it, all of us are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.!
