Motherhood hit hard.
And it shifted everything.
Becoming a mother was NOT
the fairytale I expected or wanted.

My world turned upside down.

I love my work.

The best opportunities show up when you are not looking.

You should always be open and curious.

Receiving a message from a recruiter when you're not actively searching for a new role can open unexpected paths. 

(Yes, sometimes it's annoying) 😀

This week alone, I encountered a few typical responses:

→ Thanks. Unfortunately, I’m not interested. Best of luck.
→ While I'm not currently looking, I would like to hear more.
→ No response.

Back in 2020, shortly after the global lockdown began,
I was tasked with filling a Sales Manager role at an early-stage startup in Brooklyn.

A Series A startup with a product and a vision but lacking a solid sales team.

The candidate was content at a well-funded company in San Francisco, enjoying great culture and benefits. 

Despite the distance and being happily employed, we scheduled a call.

After our initial conversation and a few weeks of consideration:

→ Moved to NYC in 2020
→ Promoted to VP a year later
→ Stayed through the Series C funding
→ Developed the entire sales function from scratch

This role led her to her current VP position at a top FinTech company, her DREAM job.

Even if you’re satisfied where you are, think twice before you dismiss a message from a recruiter:

→ A shift now might be the step towards your ultimate dream job
→ Every interaction has the potential to change your life
→ You never know where a conversation might lead

That is my takeaway from Unleash.

The talks were solid:

AND

It's the human connections that stay top of mind.

Micro moments like:

-Lunch with Natalie Stones from the Talent Collective,
  sitting next to Nicky Russell and making a new friend, 
  Will McGhee.

-Catching up with Joel Lalgee and seeing him record a 
  podcast in action.
   
-Running into Anna Melano another female founder and chatting about work and life.

-Making a mom friend at lunch, bonding over our shared experience.

-Rachel Weinstein and Kyle Johnston in the startup area, checking out a TeamBridge demo.

-Connecting with Anuraag Tripathi , the Manifest founder who won the best startup award.

-Discussing the symbolism of the peacock with Kim Haemmerle, MLIS, CIP: agility, adaptability, and intelligence.

Conferences are sometimes about those special, 
unplanned moments in between structured events.

People laugh nervously when I admit that.

AND

It’s no secret—being a new parent is HARD.

It would have been hard regardless...
of LEAVING during the FIRST week. 

Last Mother's Day, I found myself walking around 
the lake, drowning in self-pity.

Kelsea Ballerini’s “Blindsided” on replay.

AND

While I still have my moments...

That DOES NOT MEAN I don’t recognize the blessing and privilege of:
- Being my son's mother
- Leaving and starting anew
- Having a support system to love and help me

A lot of MAGIC can happen in one year.

I’ve learned my own truths.

Joy and pain can coexist:
- I can still love my son and feel sad
- I can still be excited to see him walk for the first time
  AND feel tired from work

Motherhood transforms you:
- A mother finds strength she never knew she had
- I became a mother the day I found out I was pregnant
- My mama bear instincts immediately came into play

Acceptance of what is will free you:
- Life today is going to look a lot different than what I planned
- The guilt of finding BALANCE is real
- Sharing heals and builds community

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 to the bonus moms, single moms, happily married moms, fathers playing the role of mom, those who want to be moms, aunts, and everyone in between—

Every path is beautiful.
We all have a story to tell.

It's 4 AM. I'm driving to the airport.

I get a text.

Your flight is delayed until 12 PM.

I'd miss my layover in Atlanta.

No STK tonight.

No ICEBAR w/ JobPixel and 
The Chad & Cheese Podcast.

And here's the thing:

I've learned the
hard way to
LEAN into life's disturbances and inconveniences.

The choice was clear:

Drive back home to my family or head to the airport?
 
I kept driving.

NO action needed on my part.
I hadn't mastered the art of surrender, but in this moment, I came close.

A few minutes later, my app updated.

New route:
-Stopping in SLC, not Atlanta.
-The new flight leaving and arriving only an hour later.

This was handled by the Delta team. I didn’t lift a finger.

The destination is the same.
The journey? Different.

Life's plans and dreams can stay the same.
The path to get there?
It will CHANGE.

Switching lanes and routes is part of my story.

Every attempt to control the journey taught me one thing—
Delays and cancellations happen.

-People quit.
-People leave.
-You won’t get promoted.
-Your candidate will decline your offer.
-Your potential investor will pull funding.

AND

You can still BUILD your DREAM.

Whether you want to be a VP of sales or scale your own startup,
the path will twist and turn.

If your DREAM isn’t unfolding now,
it DOESN'T mean it WON'T happen.
Let go, trust the process.

It's a lot more fun.
