What sets the top 1% of sales performers apart?

Its not just about slick tactics or numbers

I've now been in sales for 17 years 

I've built teams, managed them and been in the trenches myself

and I often have been asked "What's one trait that all successful salespeople have?"

If I had to pick one it's def empathy

Empathy separates top performers from the rest

Those with empathy can close deals in their sleep

They connect with people so well that their prospects feel seen and heard

They can step out of their own shoes and into their prospects

When they read an email they send it to themselves first

They spend five minutes looking at it from their prospect's perspective

They empathize with how it will be received

In demo and discovery calls they're ready to show the prospect "I see you. I know your world. I know where you're at. I want to help. Here's how others in your position have succeeded. Let me show you how we can help"

If you can harness empathy you'll be a top performer throughout your entire sales career

I just got back from an impromptu trip with the family to rest, recharge and refocus for the second half of the year

Sometimes you just need to hit the pause button and take a break

We left Saturday evening and stayed in beautiful San Diego until today

Here’s a quick recap of our adventure

🔹 Seaport Village & Seal Tour: We kicked things off with a cool Seal Tour at Seaport Village 🦭

🔹 Beach Day: Monday was all about the beach. Sun, sand and waves 🌊

🔹 San Diego Zoo: Spent Tuesday exploring for 8 hours! We saw bears, penguins, lions, elephants and bamboos 🐻🐧🦁🐘🐒

We had the time of our lives and now as we head home I feel refreshed and ready to lock back in and crush it for the second half of the year

Lesson Learned

Instead of "Hi I’m Tom from XYZ" try this

"Hi [Name] I noticed your company is expanding its tech stack. How are you managing the transition?"

So tell me what are your biggest challenges or fears with cold calling? 👇

That’s the goal

To get there, you can either

• Focus on high-value leads
• Increase outreach volume

Just carry out these daily tasks

• Identify 10 high-value prospects
• Personalize 10 emails

"Send me more information"

We've all heard it on a cold call

It's the classic brush-off that can leave you feeling like Batman without his gadgets

But here's the thing you can be the Alfred to your prospect's Batman

Equip them with the right tools and strategies to conquer their challenges

When you hear "Send me more information" try this

"Hey [Name] of course I can. To make sure it's relevant and valuable most leaders tell me they'd like to see X, Y, and Z. Would that be the same for you? Or is there anything else you’d like to see to help you understand how we can help you?

This approach shows you care about their needs and aren't just dumping generic info on them

And here's the kicker ⤵️

What I can do is set us up a call for say Thursday at 10am?

We can dive into what was shared and see if we are a fit

If after you review the email it isn’t something of value right now you can decline and shoot me a note 

Sound fair?

This turns the objection into an opportunity

positioning you as a partner ready to help them succeed 

Remember being a great salesperson isn't about being the hero

It's about empowering your prospect with the right information and support
