Don't get me wrong, I'm forever grateful for this platform.

It's allowed me to build a business I'm proud of and allowed the opportunity for 100's of new sales reps to get their start in an incredible industry. 

But I do have a bone to pick. 

For every post you see that has a shred of value - you get 10 thought leadership posts from people preaching expertise, that've never actually done the damn thing. 

My advice to people using LinkedIn as a tool to improve your sales skills:

Listen to everyone, but be VERY careful who you take advice from. Most people don't know know their right hand from their left, so find the 3-4 people who's content you enjoy who you can learn from, and consume everything they've put out on this platform.

The most popular brush-off in 2025:

SDRs literally hear this every day.

It's: "Just send me an email."

It's a textbook brush off in sales.

Next time you hear it, use this framework:

Step 1: Acknowledge – Show them you heard them.

↳ "Jane, I’m more than happy to send you that email."

Step 2: Respond – Add a little humor and a reality check.

↳ "But I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m still waiting to hear back from all those people I emailed."

Step 3: Ask – Shift them into a real conversation.

↳ "Would it be a terrible idea if we found 30 minutes next week to explore this together and see if it’s actually something that would help you out?”

The key here?

Don’t fight the objection, understand it.

If there’s real interest, this response creates a natural opening to continue the conversation.

If not, you’ve saved yourself from sending another email into the void.

The metric that sales leaders have cared about for WAY  too long has been "how many meetings did you book?"

Looking at how many meetings you booked, is like looking at how many followers you have on LinkedIn. 

It's cool, but at the end of the day, it's a vanity metric. 
Here’s the truth:

A meeting does not equal an opportunity.
It’s just time on a calendar.

What actually matters is:

1) Did you reach your ICP and actually touch on a problem they're experiencing?
2) Did you have a conversation that unlocked a real need for that person?
3) Did you ask more questions and listen more than you pitched them on your product?

That’s it.

Once you stop chasing calendars and start chasing outcomes, you build pipeline that compounds.
Not pipeline that looks good in a dashboard but dies when push comes to shove.

Stop asking your team how many meetings they booked, and instead ask

Who did you actually talk to?

What did you learn?

Who said yes?

That’s how you win outbound going into 2026.

“I’m scared of picking up the phone.”

That’s what a BDR told me last week.

They couldn’t ask their manager for help,
[didn’t want to look incompetent]
so they messaged me instead.

Here’s what I told them:

1) You won’t outthink call anxiety.
2) You have to out-act it.

And usually, you’re not afraid of the call.
You’re afraid of what you believe about the call:

→ “I’m bothering them”
→ “They’ll think I’m annoying”
→ “Cold calling is unethical”

None of that is truth.
It’s just narrative.

Challenge the belief.
Make the dial.

You can't think your way out of fear,
you can only act your way out of stinking thinking

What your SDR’s day actually looks like:

How you think you should build an SDR team:

❌ Pay $200K+ for sales training aimed at AEs, not SDRs
❌ Spend hrs interviewing ex-athletes hoping it will work
❌ Rely on “Here’s zoominfo and outreach” as the strategy
❌ Hire 6 - 10 SDRs

How you actually build a great SDR team:

✅ SDR focused, bootcamp style training, results < 6 wks
✅ Hire SDRs that you know can deliver results on day 1
✅ Use a calling system to have a convo every 2-4 dials 
✅ Hire 2-3 SDRs

One drives results and builds pipeline.

The other will waste time, money and talent.

PS: How many SDRs do you have?

5 metrics that actually predict SDR success:

(Hint: It's not dials)

Execs still track raw activity.
↳ Dials, emails, tasks.

It looks good on a dashboard.

But it tells you nothing about revenue.

Here are the metrics that actually matter:

1. Connect rate: 
   Are your reps calling people who answer?
   
2. Completions: 
   Did the prospect hear the pitch + respond?
   
3. Activations (4 i’s): 
   Do they have interest, intent, ask for info, or intrigue 
   [not ONLY set meetings]
   
4. Show rate: 
   How many buyers actually show up?
   
5. Conversion (SQO): 
   How many are qualified deals?

^ 2 + 3 is the funnel above the funnel.

Only tracking 1 + 4 + 5 and you’ll never know WHY outbound doesn't work.

Track all 5 and to know whether your system is locked in.

That's how you'll get 1 day of work to look like this.


𝗣𝗦: Which of these 5 are your team ignoring right now?

40 dials. No connects.
6 dials. Two connects.
Same reps. Same list. Different system.

Our SDRs used to grind out 20–60 dials… maybe one connect.

Another 40 dials… maybe another.

Now?
The biggest problem is keeping up.

3–6 dials: connect.
3–6 more: another one.

The shift? 

We use a fast pass for connects.

Now, with our playbook, I hear reps complain, “I’m losing my voice from too many conversations.”

You don’t need more volume.

It really stung when he said, “You should reconsider your life choices.”

That one call does not define you.

Your worth isn’t measured by a stranger’s words.

Your career is built by how many times you choose to try again.

Detach from the outcome.
Detach from the ego.
Keep moving forward.


Because greatness lives on the other side of the -next- call.

Your SDRs aren’t failing because they lack motivation.

They’re failing because you ignore these 3 things:

1. You're giving them garbage data.

If you gave Steph Curry a deflated ball and bent rim, he’d miss too. That’s what reps are dealing with when:

→ The list is outdated
→ Their contacts never pick up
→ Their numbers are considered spam

It’s not a “motivation” issue. It’s a math issue.

2. You’re using the wrong measuring stick.

→ Dials ≠ output.
→ Meetings ≠ pipeline.
→ Motivation ≠ system.

Most teams track activity and pray something lands. We track completions. Because 30–40 convos a day builds momentum. Not 3 connects and 72 voicemails.

3. You train like it’s 2015.

Your reps don’t need to “smile and dial.”
They need to know how to:

→ Own the first 10 seconds of a call
→ Pivot tone + question based on real-time cues

Scripts don’t make them elite.

Live coaching does.

So no, they’re not “lazy.” 

They’re just calling ghosts, with no training and no support.

Fix the system. Then let’s talk motivation.

You’re making their job 10x harder. 

Every extra day you “wait until they’re ready” means:

• Confidence fades
• Call reluctance grows
• The phone starts to feel heavier

Your SDRS don’t need to know everything before they start. They need live conversations...fast.

This helps them:

• Learn the market while calling.
