While conducting combat operations in Kandahar Province, White-Stumpf and two other Soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device.

Lost, alone in transition, and his DoD SkillBridge program may have been a SHAM.

I took the emergency call late yesterday afternoon - because my friend Brian S-O-S, referred him.

A veteran in CRISIS, who needed help.

Father of 6. 
A family to support.
I saw the worry in his eyes.

His last day in the Air Force, literally a few weeks away.
I heard the fear in his voice.
“WTF do I do now” … this is a scary feeling.

21 years of experience in the Air Force.
15 years in Talent Acquisition.
6+ years as a Healthcare Recruitment expert.

Ohh, And loves to Source and Hunt.
Gotta Love that right!?!
A 10000% DOER!

Took advantage of a DoD Skillbridge program in Recruiting.
Led to believe there was a position waiting for him.

HMMMM….. Who are the gatekeepers to hold these programs accountable and to ensure these types of practices are corrected, seriously? 

He … we will call him “Paul” - needs his next Healthcare Recruiting opportunity in life after the service asap 

Determined.
Hungry.

A powerhouse—15+ years in full-cycle recruiting, physician and executive placements, an MBA, and a USAF veteran, and enrolled in his SPHR.

Last night I didn’t just talk to Paul - I witnessed resilience in action.

When I transitioned out of the Army, one of my biggest challenges was translating my military career into terms that aligned with civilian job postings. 

To make things harder, feedback on my applications, screenings, or interviews was almost non-existent, leaving me unsure how to identify and fix my shortcomings.

Fast forward 2017 to 2025.

In order to get traction in your search > Give them what they are looking for ... a tailored resume, a precise interview, and be the best fit from their slate.

Lately, I've been reflecting on resumes submitted to our jobs and probably most others.

Seeing an application with a TAILORED resume only happens less then 10% of the time.

BLUF: 

Communicate your specific experience as it relates to the requirements of that role. Show the impact as it relates to the role, this is what the hiring leaders are looking.

This shouldn’t be a daunting task, and it’s not a full re-write of your resume.

Let me break it down:

*why it helps
*what to skip
*how to do it step by step. 

This has landed interviews for me and others I've advised, and its the way candidates land interviews with us.

Why you should give 2 shits:

-Your resume is your first impression of you to us. 
-It shows you're sharp, detail-focused, and effective.
-It’s a future indicator of the attention-to-detail you’ll have.

So:

Keep it to 1–2 pages, though some professionals may need more based on experience and role scope.

Highlight achievements and results >>> PROVE YOUR VALUE.

Do these things if you DON'T want to get hired:

-Give a vague overview of your experience.
-List every skill you have.
-Position yourself as a generalist.
-Use the same resume for every application.
-Skip numbers on your impact.

How to tailor your resume (simple steps):

1. Print the job listing & company info.
2. Highlight required/desired qualifications (green).
3. Highlight keywords—skills, degrees, certs (pink).

4. Update your resume to match: address qualifications, add relevant experience, show total years clearly.

5. Double-check your resume includes the highlighted keywords.

Now, update your resume:

A. Customize the summary: connect your background to the role and company.
B. State the position you’re seeking.
C. Focus on relevant experience.
D. Use numbers to show impact.
E. Keep job titles accurate and terms current.
F. Tailor bullets to the role type.

Examples:

*Results-focused: 

[Action verb] + [What you did] + [How] + [Outcome with numbers].

(Recruiter): Filled 45+ technical roles in six months via targeted outreach and data sourcing, cutting time-to-fill by 30%.

*Leadership/problem-solving: 

Situation + Action + Outcome.

(Recruiting Manager): 

Led 10 recruiters to revamp hiring, adding ATS workflows that raised efficiency by 40% and cut costs by 20%.

*Technical/skills-based: 

Task + Skills + Results.

(Sourcer): 

Built 500+ candidate pipeline with Boolean searches, AI tools, and outreach, boosting conversions by 25%.

Since becoming a business owner supporting DoD/IC and commercial work, it's been challenging for me early on to be able to find time to vacation. 

My last vacation was to Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY to fully submerge myself in our Lord Jesus Christ, midnight vigils, services that enrich my soul, and to take it the beautiful countryside views.
