For more than two decades, I have journeyed to some of the world’s most remote regions, safeguarding the knowledge of Indigenous elders and communities. Their often-overlooked wisdom offers vital solutions to many of today’s global challenges. As the first female Fellow and Explorer at the National Geographic Society, I pioneered the use of cultural anthropology, filmmaking, and storytelling to protect this knowledge. My work merges ancestral wisdom with modern innovation, creating bridges between worlds too often seen as divided. My vision is to build an archive of the human story, a dynamic platform of experiences that transcend political, social, and geographic divides. This work reminds us that our common ground is greater than our differences. Along this path, I have advised UN ambassadors, opened global summits, served on international boards, and spoken on the TED main stage. These experiences have enabled me to partner with leaders across sectors who are committed to meaningful change.
