Pausing your job search every time you get an interview? Thatโs how momentum dies. And how people end up back at square one. I spoke with a startup job seeker yesterday. She said... โI was interviewing for 3 roles. One paused hiring. One chose someone else. And now Iโm justโฆ stuck.โ Sheโs not alone. This happens ALL THE TIME. โ People prep for interviews (awesome!) But they pause everything else (networking, outreach, sourcing roles) So if those roles fizzle out... They're left with nothing. You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. Want to stand out AND stay in motion? Now you've front-loaded the hard work. Spend 30 min to 1 hr/day sending high-volume, high-quality messages with ease. Batch your role discovery Create a running list of companies and roles. For each one identify the relevant people to contact. To speed outreach up even further, write down: โข Why you're interested โข What value you offer โข What experience might resonate โข What you hope to learn 3๏ธโฃ Use a text expander Stop typing the same thing 100+ times. That's a lot of manual work. Make this faster by saving templates in a tool. I like aText, but TextExpander works as well. Save job board searches Set up alerts or save filtered links. Add them to your calendar as recurring events. No more forgetting to check or starting from scratch each week. Time-block your system You've done the heavy lifting. Now, just stick to the plan: โข 30-60 min/day โ warm outreach โข 1-2 hrs/day โ cold outreach Interviews are part of the process. A part you should spend a lot of time on. Want to stand out in your next interview? Stop worrying about being likeable. Be ๐๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐๐น instead. An Early member was prepping for an interview. How to get in touch with literally anyone. Even if youโre starting from zero. I listened to a podcast with Tim Ferriss' first employee. A few weeks later, we were chatting on Zoom. Want similar results? Use this 4-step Cold DM Framework: 1๏ธโฃ Do interesting things This may sound too abstract, but it's pretty simple. People who are interesting get attention. The more attention you get, the more credible you are. But this isn't mindless attention. This gives you context and conversation ammo. Engage authentically Comment 3x/week on their posts. โ Ask smart follow-up questions โ Add your perspective โ Reference their older ideas Donโt be a fan, be a peer. I want to tell you a story about underselling your impact. It all starts on my first day at a prior role... It was Day 1. I was excited to drink from the fire hose. Iโd tear through the documentation. Iโd dive into the data. I was ready. So I asked for the process documentation. โ๏ธ "What documentation?" Then I asked to see the daily/weekly/monthly data. โ๏ธ "What data?" That was the moment my eyes were opened. Before this, I had spent years at Uber, joining when we were just 250 employees before the Series C round. Even that early, there were: โ Processes โ Documentation โ Robust data dashboards โ A regular data reporting cadence โ Clearly defined KPIs and benchmarks I just assumed this was "how startups worked". ๐จSPOILER ALERT๐จ Most startups don't have these foundations yet. To some, this may sound like chaos. But to a builder, it's pure opportunity. I had already landed the role. But what I learned was that I had significantly undersold my potential impact. If you've worked in a well-run company, you're carrying invisible advantages: โ You know how to build systems โ You know what good looks like โ You know how to document โ You know how to scale Most people undersell this. They assume what they've seen is "normal". As a result: โ They don't ask about these areas in interviews. โ They don't understand what is and isn't in place. โ They don't show how they could impact the company. But trust me: It could be transformational to them. Once you know what's missing, send a quick value deliverable: โข Show them ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต you'd build โข Explain ๐ธ๐ฉ๐บ it matters โข Sketch ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ธ you'd make it happen Instantly, you're not just another candidate. You're the one who can see the invisible work. You're the one who can bring it to life. And that? That could be the thing that lands you the offer. Share this to help people in your network. + Follow me, Kyle Thomas, for more.
โIโve been casually lookingโฆโ That sentence is killing your job search. And your momentum. And your career clarity. See if this sounds familiar๐ "I was ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ดโฆ but never had any interviews." "Iโve been ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด for a year." "I started ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด in Octoberโฆ but didnโt find anything." "Iโve been ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด and kind of just tossing my resume out and seeing what happens." Those quotes are pulled directly from conversations I've had with job seekers recently. Let me be direct: โCasually lookingโ is a career stall tactic. Hereโs what it actually does: 1๏ธโฃ It wastes your time. The job search is a momentum game. Inconsistent effort = inconsistent results. You canโt build muscle memory with one rep a month. 2๏ธโฃ It wastes othersโ time. Recruiters can tell. Hiring managers can sense hesitation. And it signals youโre not truly ready to commit. It leads to stagnation. Casual searchers skip the deep work: What do I really want next? Why? What will I not settle for? What happens without those answers? Youโll land in the same role with a new logo. Slightly more money. Slightly better title. But a year laterโฆ still unfulfilled. It builds bad habits. When you're half-in you don't go all out. You're less likely to prepare thoroughly. You're less likely to go above and beyond. You're more likely to cut corners. Over time, you engrain bad job search habits. 5๏ธโฃ It delays important decisions. โBrowsingโ feels safe. But it postpones the uncomfortable truth: ๐ Your current role may no longer fit. Your story might need a reset. Your goals have likely evolved. It's a sign you need to go deeper. To figure out why you're browsing. And what you really want. โ If youโre in, be all in. Get clarity. Build momentum. Take it seriously. Or wait until youโre truly ready to move. Your future self will thank you. ๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐: Should everyone always be โcasually lookingโ? โณ "Best to always know what's out there." Or do you think it's a waste of time? โณ "Being half-in means you're wasting your time."
You can't teach drive. You can't teach hunger. You can't teach ambition. You can't teach competitiveness. You either have these... or you don't. You can sharpen them over time. But they must come from within you. Startups crave these traits. If you have them, don't hide them. Show them off loud and clear. Follow up after interviews. Share what you already started building or learning on your own. Research the company deeply. Show up with ideas - not just questions. Tell them where you see yourself growing inside the company - and how you'll get there. Highlight moments where you won - whether it was hitting top sales, shipping faster, or outperforming expectations. Most candidates say they have these qualities. Few actually prove it. Show them instead of telling them. That's the way to win. Share this to help people in your network. + Follow me, Kyle Thomas, for more.
You're not just one intro away from a job. You're one clear message away. I hear this every week: "I'm great in interviews. All I need is to get in front of the right people." So I'll ask... "Who are the right people?" Typically, I hear something like... "Well, they're the founders and executives at fast-growing startups with great products." He pushed for more equity instead of maxing out salary. He was able to see the company's numbers. That gave him a high degree of conviction. The result? A 50% increase over the original equity offer. Plus an additional $10k in salary as a cherry on top. His journey is proof: โ Have a plan โ Stay focused โ Play offense not defense Congrats to this member (we'll share names and videos soon). Excited to see all you've accomplished!
Sh*t happens. It throws off your plans. It kills momentum. If you're on the job search... expect it. โข Friends will leave your messages on read. โข Your kid will spike a fever before a big call. โข If you don't have kids, you will get sick too. โข Your dream company will put hiring on pause. โข You'll get a rude reply to a thoughtful outreach. โข You'll be ghosted - sometimes after 5 interviews. โข A company will "go in a different direction"... again Just remember... Here's what IS in your control: โ Who you vent to โ How you bounce back โ How you structure your week โ What you believe about yourself โ Whether you stop showing up (or don't) YES, the job search is about getting hired. But it's also about building resilience. It's about making you anti-fragile. You know who else is going through it? โข People with multiple unicorns on their resume โข People with degrees from the best schools โข Former founders I know because I talk to them every day. Here's what I'll say... Keep showing up. Even if today, showing up means sending one email. Progress isn't loud. It's consistent. The harder the journey, the better the story. Repost to help people in your network stay resilient โ Follow Kyle Thomas for more P.S. For us this week, it was the 2-year-old fever spike.

This HIRING startup is unlocking 2% mortgages. It could change the housing market forever. Roam just raised an $11.5M Series A from Khosla Ventures (led by Keith Rabois). Why are top investors calling it Because Roam lets homebuyers take over the sellerโs low-interest mortgage. โ 2-3% rates from pre-2022 โ Instead of todayโs 7% โ Saving buyers $12,000+ per year ๐ณ But here's the ingenious bit... And they made the once-complex process seamless: โข Roam pre-approves buyers โข Works directly with banks to transfer the loan โข Even launched ๐ฅ๐ผ๐ฎ๐บ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐๐ (a second mortgage to cover the down payment gap) Thes drive big results: โ Buyers win with monthly savings โ Sellers attract way more offers โ The market moves again ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ด๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฑ: โข Founded by Raunaq Singh (ex-Opendoor, Uber) โข Launched in 2023 โ now live in 17 states โข Thousands of homes w/ assumable loans already listed The founder was an intern on our team at Uber years ago, and I can tell you from first-hand experience working with him - He's awesome.
