Thinkbait is my answer to this moment in time. I’m encouraging you to reclaim the act of writing, AND the act of thinking. Fight for nuance, for connection, and for meaning.

Consider what it means to create… not perfectly, but deliberately, as humans have done for centuries.

You think language is evolving?
It’s not. It’s being compressed.

Every year, over 1,000 words quietly fall out of circulation, and by that I don’t mean slang or filler, but real structural vocabulary. Words that once carried precision, subtlety, and layers of meaning are vanishing.

By age 30, the average person today struggles to define nearly 22% of the vocabulary found in books written before 1950.

You may call it illiteracy or even the natural evolution of language; linguistic change wrapped up as progress.
But I call it erasure.

The online ecosystem doesn’t delete words of course — it’s more insidious. It simply stops rewarding their use.

Long sentences get buried, and reach for a rare word is throttled and downranked.
Offering a complex thought gets flagged as ‘difficult’.

What you’re left with is a flattened version of language, sliced down to fit neatly inside algorithmic filters, and once enough words disappear, so do the ideas that needed them.

Now imagine this: If you no longer have the words, you no longer have the tools to describe what’s broken… Or imagine what could be built.

What we’re witnessing is mass intellectual flattening, not just linguistic change.

Depth.
Nuance.
Meaning.
Slowly smothered, year by year, post by post.

And do you know what the most dangerous loss is? Soon, we won’t even have the language to name what’s missing.

If there’s a solution, it’s twofold.

First… Read voraciously, and read widely across genres, eras, and styles. Let your mind encounter words and ideas it wasn’t looking for.

Second… Demand better content.
Skip past the easy, the fluffy, or the instantly gratifying, brain-numbing flashes of porridge.
Linger over the posts, articles, and books that ask more of you, those that stretch your attention, not just reward it.

If we want richer language and deeper thought to survive, we have to train the system differently.

Every time we reward complexity, nuance, and real craftsmanship, we tilt the algorithm (however slightly) back toward meaning.

People ask how I sustain this lifestyle. 

Simple… I don’t. But that’s the point. 

Real hustle means you keep telling strangers online that you own time itself, while your body constantly negotiates with gravity.

The thing is, no one is actually winning at this game. Shocking, I know.

But if you frame your insomnia as a productivity trick and your caffeine addiction as “biohacking,” you’ll get 12,569 likes and someone will DM you asking if you do coaching.

Hi, I’m Zsike and sometimes I write funny posts. Other times more serious ones. 

I also write for other people because I’m quite good at it. And humble too.

We don’t actually know what happens to our minds if we outsource them to AI for a year.

Most of the current empirical research on LLM use is short-term. 

Wharton’s 2023 RCT with professional workers, for example, measured gains in idea generation and problem solving after only one task cycle (no follow-up beyond hours).

Similar experiments at MIT and Stanford tracked consultants or students over 2–4 weeks, showing productivity and quality boosts, but not cognitive change over time. 

Microsoft’s own in-house studies report efficiency improvements in early adoption phases, yet again measured over weeks, not months. 

To date, there are no longitudinal studies of working adults that track how sustained reliance on LLMs over 6–12 months or longer shapes writing proficiency, critical thinking, or creative cognition. This remains the major evidence gap.

Does long-term LLM use sharpen our minds through partnership, or atrophy them through over-reliance? Until we run proper longitudinal studies, we’re speculating.

That gap matters and it’s why I plan to launch a year-long study with oversight from an academic partner (yet to be defined), to finally start measuring how sustained LLM use changes our writing muscles, creative capacity, and critical thinking.

I wonder if László Krasznahorkai, the famous contemporary Hungarian writer, and international Man Booker Prize winner, used Al to write it? 

How about all the millions of other books with perfect punctuation, grammar, and spelling?

This page is from ‘Seiobo There Below’ and it was written in 2008 — 14 years before ChatGPT and the other LLMs were made available to the public.

Em dashes are not exclusive to LLMs. In fact, all punctuation marks have been used for a rather long time pre-ChatGPT. 

(Writing this with the most dramatic eye roll because I’m tired of having to state the obvious.)

Can we stop this em-dash-bashing nonsense, please?

And yes, I know this is social media but to those arguing for simplifying our writing for ease of mass comprehension — if anything, we should exemplify quality writing, not vilify it.

Why can’t we slowly raise the bar and except more of our readers?

The real tell-tale sign of an Al post is all the fifty shades of beige copy. Not faultless punctuation.

We happily spend a fortune on protein powders, gym memberships, and wearable devices that count every step, yet the only intellectual reps most people get are doom-scrolling through TikTok and arguing with strangers in their LinkedIn comments section.

It’s strange how we treat the body as a temple but the mind as a rental property. We obsess over sculpting glutes while ignoring the fact that our critical faculties have slowly withered.

The real gym for the mind looks more like Plato than protein shakes, more Nietzsche than Netflix. Reading, questioning, healthy debating, challenging your own assumptions, wrestling with uncomfortable ideas — these are the squats and deadlifts of thought.

Muscles may win admiration but it’s the mental workouts that win revolutions.

Never skip brain day.

A quick note to those of you lovely people who have ordered my book, 'Thinkbait' - mostly based in the U.S. - they have all been returned by U.S. customs 😖  Apparently the custom rules changed in between me posting and the books arriving, so now I have to re-label them and have them shipped again.

Please bear with me - I will try to sort the issue over the next couple of weeks.

I skip past any post that sounds like AI.
And so do you.
You just don’t realise it.

That instinctive refusal has nothing to do with hating the tech. We scroll past the fifty shades of beige because our brains are hardwired to spot inauthentic rhythm.

AI writes in perfect symmetry… balanced clauses, clear contrasts, tidy moral takeaways, using the rule of three — all the copywriting hat-tricks.. But it’s just language without fingerprints, and our brains, being the nosy social organs they are, immediately clock it as not human.

See, we don’t simply read for information; we read for intent. We want to sense a mind behind the words… and not only a mind but the subtle friction of personality, the unfinished thoughts evident on the screen, the weird but so human-like contradicting stances, or the little imperfections that signal, a real person struggled to articulate this.

No matter how many times you probe, stoke, or prompt it, AI can’t fake effort. It never sweats, and that absence of sweat is exactly what your subconscious notices.

That’s why you scroll past the smooth-sounding, “Here’s what I learned from failing at 3 startups” essay and stop at someone ranting about a client who ghosted them mid-project, or that opinion piece about crunchy peanut butter being the superior choice over the smooth version (if you don’t agree, we can’t be friends).

One sounds alive. The other sounds optimised.

And no amount of personalised prompting frameworks (🤢) will change that.

We do not to want perfection. We are wired to crave proof that someone ACTUALLY thought.

What you call innovation is theft wrapped up in friendly UX.

If you create original content on here to build a business, a brand, or a reputation, agreeing to this means handing your IP to LinkedIn and Microsoft on a silver platter.

Imagine working years to hone your voice and authority, only for it to be fed into a machine that helps your competitors mimic you.

Regardless of what you do, I don’t think any of you would want this as a feature. 

Agreeing to this is a direct threat to the survival of many businesses who rely on their content as a moat.

So, be warned:

From 3rd November 2025, LinkedIn will start using your data and public posts for this purpose — unless you actively opt out.

Do it now:

> Go into your LinkedIn settings.
> Find the 'Data for Generative AI Improvement' toggle.
> Toggle it OFF.


Your words are your equity. Don’t let them get stripped for parts.

Language just evolves.
It sheds one word, picks up another, and everything balances out.

That was the main critique on my last post… and I welcome it. I don’t write here to close arguments, but to open them. Critical conversations are oxygen and we need them more than ever in the face of homogenisation of language and thought itself.

But I do have a problem with the “it all evens out” argument because the data suggests it doesn’t.

I came across an Instagram post by the The Economist recently, reporting that sentences in bestselling books are shrinking, parliamentary speeches are shorter (and full of ChatGPT nonsense), and fewer people are reading at all. This is not a harmless shift in fashion, like swapping flares for skinny jeans. It’s structural.

Vocabulary among adults has measurably declined over the last four decades, even when you hold education constant. Words don’t politely make way for new ones in a seamless exchange. Once they become rare enough, the ecosystem simply stops rewarding their use, and they vanish. 

Social media analyses show the same pattern: younger generations are using simpler syntax and vocabulary than older groups.

You can’t call this linguistic evolution. If anything, it’s a kind of Darwinism in reverse. Instead of survival of the fittest, we have survival of the simplest.

The risk goes far beyond being aesthetic and I am not here to promote the perpetual parroting of fancy, flowery verbiage for the sake of sounding like a Booker-Prize-winning author or a contemporary poet. 

But words are tools of thought. Lose the tools, and you lose the ability to carve reality in detail. Without the right words, we can’t describe what’s broken, or imagine what could be built. 

This has a negative societal impact resulting in stifled innovation and creativity, marginalised perspectives, reduced adaptability and resilience, increased social and political division, weaker arguments and intellect, and … I could go on. 

Homogeneous societies are simply more vulnerable to change because they lack the diverse perspectives needed to address new challenges effectively.

Of course, clarity matters. No one wants to wade through Victorian-length clauses for the sake of it, but when every sentence is reduced to a slogan, something easily digestible, and easily forgettable… nuance suffocates.

So what can we do?
I'd love to have your thoughts, but I added my suggestions in the comments.

Ultimately, if we only reward simplicity, complexity disappears, and once the complex disappears, so do the thoughts that require it.

I don’t think that’s an “evolution” we can afford.

I seem to be living in a quiet, simmering state of rebellion lately. Not the loud, impulsive kind that marks adolescence, but something older, slower, more elemental.

It’s beneath the surface of my whole being now, subtle but constant, like a low tide pulling at the edges of who I once thought I was.

What surprises me is not the presence of this rebellion, but its timing. Isn’t this supposed to be the season of settling down? The season of becoming more measured, more certain, more at ease with the compromises we make to keep the peace?

But I was calm when I was younger. Gentle, agreeable, easily folded into the shapes others needed from me. I lived through my teenage years, my twenties, even most of my thirties with an odd kind of stillness – as if rebellion had been postponed… stored somewhere in the body until I could carry it properly.

And now, deep in my early forties, I feel it stirring with a quiet intensity, no longer asking for permission.

It doesn’t feel like a crisis. More like a becoming. As though something in me is finally unfolding along its true seam. There’s a kind of urgency to it of course, but it’s the urgency of alignment. Sort of… no longer wishing to wear what doesn’t fit.

I don’t want to be disruptive for the sake of it.

I am finally refusing to disappear.

Excerpt from my journal… one of those nicer entries after months of just throwing my thoughts onto paper without policing what forms and remains worthy of capturing.

There is something profoundly, magically time-stopping about hand-writing out your mind’s ongoings. 

You should try it…

Some people chase attention.
I study its architecture... The subtle mathematics of why we look, listen, and stay.

For me, writing was never a career choice; it was the earliest language I understood. 

At eighteen, I was sneaking into places I shouldn’t have been, chasing stories that needed no one wanted to talk about. Words became a form of trespass… a way to enter rooms I didn’t yet belong in.

That same instinct built Vampire Digital.

It began as a rebellion against content hacks and the influencer-driven hollow performance of visibility. 

I wanted to create something enduring, and more deliberate… a studio where ideas are treated as art forms, and founders are guided to speak with gravity rather than volume.

Vampire Digital exists for those who think deeply, but have yet to be seen in the way they want to be.

Attention isn’t a gift. It’s an emotional exchange, earned through rhythm, impact, and resonance.

My work begins where thought meets psychology. 
I study how ideas inhabit people: what makes them linger, repeat, and root themselves in memory. 

Every founder I work with has their own geometry of influence, and my role is to reveal it.

This isn’t marketing in the conventional sense, but rather, composition.
Each sentence, silence, and structure is calibrated to make meaning last longer than the scroll.

Over the past seven years, I’ve worked with founders, academics, filmmakers, and innovators across industries — from AI to education, from design to health. 

Each collaboration is approached as a creative thesis: researched, written, and refined until it carries emotional precision.

The process is part editorial, part psychological, part architectural.

The parasite eats, lives, and grows inside the host. But the host, too, is changed; not always weakened, sometimes refined.

There are parasites that blind the eyes of snails so birds can see them better. Others that encourage ants to climb tall blades of grass, waiting to be eaten. 

Still others that steer their hosts with eerie precision, through elegantly subtle suggestion, without violence. Soft influence, gradual surrender. 

As morbid as this sounds, these relationships are natural and sometimes even positive in their symbiosis setup. But biology has no moral compass and we have come to realise that evolution is a long theatre of compromise… 

What survives is not always the strongest but sometimes the most entangled, pliable, dependent, the most willing to host. And perhaps that’s what we’re becoming now. Willing hosts. 

Not to a virus, or a worm, or a fungal spore lodged in the base of the skull, but to something positioned as progress, something we made, and are now beginning to be remade by. 

Something that is far more insidious than asking for blood. One that asks for data. Instead of wanting our flesh, it demands our attention, and rather than commanding obedience in the old sense, it expects constant availability.

This ‘something’ we made is Artificial Intelligence.
