Answer the Call!

In the middle of dinner out with my family, I got a call that could change everything—a conversation with a top business leader I’ve been waiting to meet. 

I stepped outside for a quick chat and returned 20 minutes later with an amazing new connection and invaluable insights.

When I returned, there were a few raised eyebrows. 
But imagine if I’d stepped away to nurse my baby or if I was a man…. 
no one would bat an eye! 

As a mother of a 7-week-old human and a 1-year-old startup, it’s sometimes like raising twins😂

They’re obviously not the same but both need constant attention, and sometimes you can’t keep them waiting.

Founders, our startups are our babies! 

We know what they need, whether it’s a quiet room or a pivotal discussion. 

Opportunities often knock when we least expect them, and we must be ready to answer.

Let’s support each other, shed the guilt, and take the call.

Me: Are your current partners fully utilized and successful?

VP of Channel Development: We need better partners. The current ones barely contribute to our targets.

Me: So, do you need better partners or more partners?

VP of Channel Development: The more we onboard, the better ones we'll find.

Me: The more you onboard, the more resources you'll burn and partners you'll churn. Are you gathering data and insights from your existing partners' feedback?

VP of Channel Development: We need to show that we have a plan for growth.

Me: You need a plan that works. Right now, you're focusing on onboarding new partners instead of enabling the ones you have.

VP of Channel Development: We've been investing heavily in onboarding new partners.

Me: Invest in understanding and supporting your current partners. Their success will create a strong foundation for future growth.

VP of Channel Development: We need to invest in revenue-producing activities.

Me: If your partners aren't producing enough revenue, any problem you have now will get multiplied by every new partner you add.

VP of Channel Development: Good point.

Me: Focus on making your current partners successful. It’s a plan for sustainable growth, not unnecessary spending and inefficiency.

VP of Channel Development: That makes sense. We need to scale a strong, successful partner network first.

Me: Exactly.

I had a great conversation with Eyal Adanya from Reblaze, and he shared some real insights about channel partnerships.

The key thing I learned? 
Partnerships only work when everyone involved—the vendor, the partner, and the customer—gets real value.

Eyal stressed that many partnerships fail because the vendor doesn’t understand what the partner really needs. It could be better margins, marketing support, or even just a stronger brand presence.

Always keep refining how you recruit and engage partners. It's not just about signing a contract; it's about building and nurturing a relationship.

Went back to the gym today for the first time since giving birth 10 weeks ago. 

It was invigorating. 
The energy and focus I felt were amazing.

Sharing this video even though I'm not doing the exercise well because the first second pulling yourself back up is the hardest but showing up and starting the hard work is the only way forward. 

The trainer recorded this as encouragement, reminding me of the importance of support. 

Just like in business, it’s about taking that first step and embracing new challenges. 

The first week after a rough Q, the first 6 months in a new job or even just the first workout back at the gym. 

Here’s to growing stronger, both personally and professionally.

One of my key takeaway from Eran Zinman’s (co-CEO monday.com ) talk yesterday on management was the critical importance of seeking and collecting feedback, then iterating accordingly.

Reflecting on his insights and my experience working with channel sales teams, I see that high-performing leaders understand their pivotal role in business growth.  However, many still miss significant opportunities when it comes to their channel sales because they don’t effectively collect enough feedback or interact their programs consistently with their channel partners.

Traditional leaders push more enablement and marketing on their partners. 

Top performers zoom out, identify gaps, and adapt their programs, processes, and tech to innovate and improve. 

The same principle applies to customer success.

As we enter a new quarter, now is the time to collect feedback from your teams and partners. 

We've helped teams like Eran's do this effectively, leading to significant partner program improvements.

Had a great chat with Nelson Wang, Head of Worldwide Partnerships at Airtable and Founder of Partner Principles, and his customer-centric focus really resonated with me.

The best partner programs are built with the customer in mind. It's not just about finding any partner but matching with those who truly meet customer needs and drive great experiences.

Nelson stressed the importance of focusing on what truly matters to customers. It’s all about understanding their specific needs and ensuring that partnerships are designed to address those needs effectively.

P.S. It made me think... Many business leaders worry that their overall strategy and execution aren't as premium as their brand. They know they'll miss out on great opportunities if they keep relying on average sales tactics and channel partnerships.

Originally a failed adhesive, someone saw their true potential and created a revolutionary tool we all use.

After observing 100+ channel sales teams, I've noticed a critical pattern:
Teams often get absorbed in long-term improvement projects, losing sight of day-to-day operations. 

While they're heads-down on these initiatives, revenue quietly slips away through neglected channels.

In channel sales, progress shouldn't come at the cost of current performance. Balance is crucial!

It’s crystal clear that at the end of this quarter, high-performing business leaders are zooming out to reassess their GTM strategy. 

From what I'm seeing across companies, attaining new customers and retaining existing ones has always been the hardest part of business, and now it's even tougher.

Everyone’s feeling it.

Effectively listening to partners and customers is more than just good manners—it's a strategic necessity.

If companies want to grow bigger, why aren't they strategizing their go-to-market based on partner feedback like the companies that have already succeeded?

Here are five great examples:
Microsoft: Developed the Cloud Solution Provider program by understanding partner needs, and boosting sales for both Microsoft and partners.

Salesforce: Created the AppExchange marketplace, enabling partners to sell apps and reach new customers.

Cisco: Enhanced the Partner Ecosystem with tools and support, driving increased sales of Cisco products.

IBM: Tailored PartnerWorld programs to partner feedback, leading to more leads and deals.

Adobe: Expanded the Solution Partner Program with specialized training, boosting product adoption and partner services revenue.

By truly listening to their partners and using data to inform their decisions, these companies have unlocked new revenue opportunities and refined their strategies. Understanding and acting on partner feedback is essential for developing effective strategies that drive growth and success.

From my ongoing conversations with top executives at Fortune 500 companies, one thing is clear: even with over 5,000 partners, they’re struggling to maximize many of their partnerships.

Market penetration, partner retention, and performance optimization remain significant challenges for their partnership teams.

I keep hearing about visibility gaps, underperforming partners, and fragmented data. 

And constant restructuring? It's only making things worse.
