- Planning and implementing marketing campaigns, utilizing both online and print channels to produce email newsletters, homepage promotions, catalogues, inserts and newspaper advertisements that drive revenue for the brand.
- Producing product ranges for each gardening season, to maximize sales at the right time.
- Being the driving force behind the Van Meuwen brand’s look and appearance, liaising closely with designers to create print materials and ecommerce team members to create an effective and profitable online shop.
- Working closely with buyers to get new product to bring to the brand’s range and at the price that maximizes sales opportunities.
- Generating new business through affiliate websites such as Money Saving Expert, as well as online marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon.
- Reporting on KPI on a weekly basis to B2C Sales Manager to ensure the brand is on track to achieve longer term goals.
- Utilising Google Analytics to report on digital campaigns and produce future optimised campaigns.

A role which began as Account Manager, however developed into more focus on developing existing accounts and relationships, as well as seeking new business. I took on a more senior role within the team of five, helping other account managers with day to day problems and playing a mentor role to the team administrator. My previous experience allowed me to effectively train my colleague and show them the ins and outs, as well as how to manage and produce effective, useful work to support the rest of the team.

Account Development Manager

Providing insightful, in depth and accurate data analysis on direct and email marketing campaigns, via Faststats and Microsoft Excel. From this, making suggestions and recommendations on future steps to improve company performance.

Marketing Data Administrator

Answering inbound telephone calls from customers with queries and giving them helpful, beneficial advice. This as well as handling customer order placements through a data entry system and processing credit and debit card transactions.

In October 2021, I left a £35,000/year job in London with nothing lined up. 

I was jobless for the first time since I was 17.

How I went from crying myself to sleep every night to making £10,000,000 profit every month without working more than 30 minutes per day:

(you literally steal this playbook and do it too)

1. Watched 1,000 TED talks
2. Read every book that every influencer recommended
3. Compiled a list of my favourite quotes
4. Wrote all the quotes as tweets
5. Created screenshots of the tweets with fake engagement metrics 
6. Posted them on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, MySpace, Bebo, Vine and Snapchat
7. Paid £500,000 to get engagement from many influencers
8. Created a course about how to create viral content
9. Charged £100 for it but made up a huge list of things the course includes that I’ve never offered separately at any point and just say it’s worth like £997 so I can give it a worth price of £19,997
10. Paid another £500,000 to get the same influencers to give me testimonials to say ‘Matt’s course is life changing, I always go to Matt for content’ even though they’ve never seen the course but that doesn’t matter obviously 
11. Ran paid ads

I can’t believe I’m giving this away for free.

I literally can’t believe it.

This should be illegal to give it away for free.

All my friends have told me I’m crazy for giving this away for free.

Here’s what they said:

Writing stories is boring.

If you don't know how a story should be structured, you just wing it and hope for the best.

That's why I use  a framework to write stories.

So it's not annoying, frustrating and slow.

And instead it's easy, enjoyable and fast.

This is the story framework I use that has helped me earn 1,000,000s views and show my audience who I am.

A quick one, but try this for yourself:

- Show the life before 
- Present an obstacle 
- Demonstrate the potential issues that come of the obstacle  
- Show what needs to be done to overcome it  
- Explain how you do overcome it 
- Present life now/after the obstacle

How to practice storytelling

The best "hack" for going viral:

Write powerful hooks.

That's 75% of the job done.

But I hate hacks.

So instead, I'm going to show you how I build powerful hooks that have driven over 35,000,000 views for me online in less than 3 years.

That way you become a better writer.

And your content gets more views.

I see 5 elements to build powerful hooks:

1. A basic starting point
2. Adding a timeline
3. Adding numbers
4. Adding a topic
5. Adding curiosity & “power words”

But this is my favourite way to build hooks.

How I build a powerful hook

If you have the money, you can pay to go from 0 to 75k followers in 2 months. But is this a problem? 
 
If you can shortcut growth, why not? 
 
Here's a way to do it: 
 
1. Get your wallet out 
2. Find 5-10 creators with 100-500k followers 
3. Pay them to engage on your content 
4. Write content that is a rip off of viral stuff 
5. Keep repeating this 
 
I see this happen month after month. 
 
It's easy to do if you have the budget. 
 
- You'll quickly get from 0 to 75k+ followers 
- You'll attract sponsored posts deals 
- You'll get asked to do speaking gigs 
 
You make money on the side of whatever else you do. 
 
And you build social proof, credibility and authority as a creator/online figure. 
 
Do you agree with this approach? 
 
My take: I don't agree with it. 
 
I don't like that this is possible. But unfortunately the majority of people think huge followings and viral posts is a really good thing.  
 
BUT for the majority of people who are interested in growing social presence to create new clients/customers for their business, this is a terrible, terrible way to do it. 
 
Take it from me, someone who has gone viral lots of times, grown 140,000+ followers and has not seen any drastic increase in business when I get follower growth or viral posts. 
 
Build your audience and write your content mindfully.

You're writing hooks wrong.

They're not for going viral.

They're for something else.

Great copywriters see hooks like this:

Everyone's saying it's never been harder to stand out because more people are creating content on LinkedIn than ever before. But I call bulls**t and here's why:

I see so much bland and boring content out there.

Not because of apps like Twemex.
Not because of templates.
Not because of AI.
Not because of a lack of uniqueness.
Not because of a lack of personality. 

But because of a lack of doing what they need to do and writing what they need to write.

Motivational quotes. Leadership. Productivity hacks.

Seriously, why?

LinkedIn is the biggest copycat "league" in the world.

One creator goes viral with a type of content and every growth hacking, reach obsessed, algorithm junkie is jumping on it.

But what they don't seem to care about is:

1. What sort of audience they're attracting
2. What it contributes to their business

If you want to stand out:

Do the complete opposite.

Write what you need to write.

And remember:

You only need to stand out to the people you need to stand out to.

Your target audience likely don't care deeply about random productivity hacks. 

But they do care deeply about the problem your business' service makes go away.

Standing out: never been easier.

Don’t stitch someone up if you don’t want them to stitch you up back 🙃😅

Out of office → on. 
LinkedIn posts → scheduled. 
Liver → prepared to be destroyed.

p.s what’s the weirdest stag outfit you’ve seen?

I've been writing on LinkedIn every day since January 2022 and it's a slog. 
 
Anyone who tells you it's easy: it ain't. 
 
You'll need lots of consistency, organisation and drive to keep getting better. 
 
Here's 7 ways I do that: 
 
1. Make Monday my "content day" 
2. Write about things I've already validated 
3. Write about things my customers/clients talk about 
4. Use scheduling tools (seriously, my fave tool) 
5. Tell myself not every post needs to be perfect 
6. Tell myself I'm doing this for 10 years not 10 weeks 
7. Talk to others doing the same thing 
 
If you're thinking of starting, try it for 1 year. 
 
If you've started and you're thinking of quitting, maybe there's a nugget above for you. 
 
Content fatigue is real.

How I started writing online (don't copy this): 
 
1. Quit my job 
2. Didn't have another job lined up 
3. Took a random job copywriting 
4. Decided to roll with it as a freelancer 
5. Had to get clients somehow 
6. Wrote a post saying 'i'm available' 
7. Read a bunch about posting content 
8. Sounded like a good idea, started doing it 
 
I enjoyed doing it and it felt like progress when each post was better than the last. 
 
So stuck with it. 
 
Wouldn't recommend anyone follow this path. 
 
But I would recommend writing online.

How I stopped writing LinkedIn posts from everywhere (and why you should too): 
 
1. Writing from anywhere was chaotic 
 
2 years ago I used to write LinkedIn posts: 
 
- On a walk 
- On a beach 
- In the queue for a pint 
- On date nights with my gf 
- In the crowd at a gig 
 
It was bad really. 
 
2. Focus on the present 
 
I wasn't focused on the present.  
 
Life is more important than LinkedIn content.  
 
Let's face it. 
 
3. Don't miss out on life 
 
I don't wanna miss anything. 
 
My memory is terrible as it is. I can't be letting my mind wander elsewhere. 
 
Content can wait. 
 
4. Dedicated writing time 
 
I write once a week on my laptop. 
 
That's it. 
 
Complete focus for 2 hours in exchange for complete focus on life (or at least, trying to). 
 
The easiest trade-off in history.

It seems like soulless soppy nonsense goes viral on LinkedIn every day now. But does that mean you should post it? 
 
Absolutely not. 
 
So many people are growing big audiences, going viral all the time only to ask themselves: 
 
"What's the point?" 
 
If you post soulless soppy nonsense, your audience will be full of people who like soulless soppy nonsense. 
 
If you post useful content about your niche, guess who your audience will be full of? 
 
People interested in useful content about your niche. 
 
Wild idea I know. 
 
You attract what you put out.

Woke up this morning to a email saying they're unsubscribing from my email list because it's mundane and not engaging and requesting me to "please make it more catchy".  
 
I have no idea what 'more catchy' even means. 
 
But they also asked me to make it "stand out more visually and aesthetically". 
 
I could easily throw my whole approach out the window and say okay one person hates what im doing that means everyone does.  
 
It probably means there's others who also hate it.  
 
But hopefully they've unsubscribed too. 
 
And if they haven't already then I'm not sure why because i don't think i'd want to keep receiving something i hate.  
 
I checked their LinkedIn profile. 
 
They're not even close to the type of person i would be working with any time soon.  
 
- They haven't ever posted content 
- All they do is repost things 
- Their last repost was 5 months ago 
 
Even if they decided they wanted to work with me and said "yep i'm ready to go". 
 
I would say no. 
 
Because they're not qualified.  
 
For me to work with someone they have to be: 
 
- Writing content 
- Trying but not getting the results they want 
- Need me to accelerate or correct things 
 
Hard to do that if they aren't doing anything in the first place.  
 
The lesson here: 
 
Even if someone tells you your stuff is rubbish, it might not matter. 
 
Because if they're not the type of person who could be your client, your content isn't for them. 
 
So it actually means your content is doing its job by putting these people off. 
 
For example, for me if an agency owner who's creating content 5 times a week and has a successful business tells me "Matt, your stuff is so boring and i hate it'" 
 
Then I'm listening.

How I get 10 post ideas in 5 minutes: 
 
(time saving re-purposing trick) 
 
1. I go to my content library 
2. I pick a date from 12 months ago 
3. I sort by views 
4. I take the top 10 
5. I copy and paste them into a G-Doc 
6. I strip it down to it’s bones 
7. I re-write the post using new information 
 
I did it for this post. 
 
I originally posted it August 2022. 
 
But it performed really well and the idea is still relevant and helpful for my target audience. 
 
This way I never run out of ideas when I’m uninspired. 
 
And I’m repurposing proven formats.

A reminder that copywriting isn't JUST for copywriters. 
 
The biggest and best founders in the world all realise that social copywriting is a massively high leverage skill. 
 
And they use it to attract business, not chase it, saving them 1,000s hours and generating £1,000,000s. 
 
It takes time and energy to learn the skill. 
 
(all skills do) 
 
But if you understand: 
 
- what words need to be put in what order 
- when they need to be put infront of people 
- and where you need to do it 
 
And you know how to do that yourself? 
 
You can hire and train an unbelievably powerful team of marketers. 
 
(or do it yourself and run a lean, profitable business where you can get clients and build pipeline quickly and easily)

Harsh truth about batch content creation:  
  
It’s not as quick as your favourite creators preach it is.  
 
(me included) 
  
They will say ‘write 10 posts in 60 minutes once a week’.  
  
Yep, for them it might take 60 minutes.  
  
Because they’ve been writing on LinkedIn for 2+ years, have published over 1,000 pieces of content and are re-purposing EVERYTHING.  
  
I could write 50 posts in 60 minutes...if I was copy and pasting an old post and hitting schedule.  
  
But for someone who’s new to writing on LinkedIn (and new is 6 months or less), it ain’t that quick. You’re still figuring things out. You might not even be comfortable writing still.  
  
It takes me anywhere between 5 - 45 minutes to write 1 post still. 
 
(and that's after 2+ years and 1,000s of pieces of content) 
  
So it probably will for you too - or longer still.
