Most teams try and solve the bottom-of-funnel gap by creating content. 
If you’re doing this, you’re working backwards.

Most marketers are starting surface level 

“Let me create this blog post” 

But it doesn’t start with the blog itself. 

It starts with the information used to create said blog. 

So think about this as a layered actions. 

Layer 1: Cross functional communication 

The trickiest thing about bottom-of-funnel content is it requires input from each team, when most teams don’t talk to each other. If possible, carve out some time to talk to one person from each team, sales, product, CS. Creating a slack channel with one person from each team can be helpful.

Layer 2: Consistent documentation 

Those internal docs that are sitting in G workspace or spread across teams? Gather those and create a centralized knowledge base of information that you use to train AI on your product, and persona(s).

Layer 3: Bottom-of-funnel content 

Once AI is trained on your company, products and persona(s), then use that information to start creating BOFU content, knowing it’s aligned because you got input from other teams and pulling from a single source of truth.

This exact problem is why BOFU.ai was created.

These steps won't be done in one day. 

But taking them will put you on the right path and you'll be doing a lot more than what most agencies are charging you $8k/m for.

When I started consulting I was SHOCKED how many marketing VP’s and content heads had no background in content. 

But to my surprise most of them didn’t. 

And after awhile I was able to tell too. 

Because they would question the value of content related activities. 

Everything needs attribution. 

Vs the VP’s and content heads with a background in content. 

They had an entirely different energy. 

They knew content took time. That it wasn’t easy. 

They respected the craft so much more. 

It’s why I hold a special place in my heart for VP’s that can not only see things from a macro level.

But a micro level too.

Not only did they make some of the best clients.

They were also amazing leaders to their content teams too.

Starting a SaaS has given me a new found respect for all of my peers. 

Right now I’m running every role: 

I take all the sales calls 
I’m going through positioning the product 
I’m doing the marketing 
I’m handling customers after they onboard 

And it’s connecting the dots for me about how important the work is they do. 

It’s harder to see this in-house because most times you’re isolated in your function. 

But when you run everything you get to see how everything connects to eachother. 

(Especially if you’ve never held a leadership role)

All the things I bitch at companies about I’m doing from day one: 

- Recording all my sales calls 
- Using AI to synthesize that info 
- Use that synthesized info to help positioning
- Making sure there are no silos (easy right now it’s only two of us) 

It’s a weird inception type of thing. 

I could have just stayed consulting, sure.

But I feel like being a founder of the type of companies I consult for is going to give me a perspective I would have never had. 

And ultimately help me do my job way better than I ever have. 

I don’t think I’ll ever go back in-house.

But if I do that resume will be Godly.

Me expanding BOFU into an education company has brought me to the realization that I’m actually a T-shaped marketer. 

I’m doing a lot: 

- Social strategy 
- Youtube strategy 
- SEO 
- Asset buildouts (templates, playbooks) 

And now also being trained on email marketing.  

I can see the funnel from a broad view. 

It’s interesting. 

I did a lot of jumping from agency to agency in my 20’s. 

And I’d always think…

“What is this for? I hope it means something” 

But it was exactly what I needed. 

Every skill I learned during that time I’m using to build BOFU. 

As much as I stan BOFU, building this forces me to think outside of that box. 

And see how different parts of my business connects in it’s entirety. 

It’s fun.

Im building an entire education company off the back of one productized service. 

Im completely re-writing how im building my business. 

Because at first I was doing what others wanted me to do. Now…Im doing this MY way. 

Here’s the breakdown.

BOFU.ai will be THE go to resource on BOFU.

But what it really is? 

It’s just my done-for-you productized service deconstructed and unbundled 

Done-for-you is a productized service. 

Now my thought?

How can I unbundle this productized service as much as possible while creating a very intentional buying journey?

The productized service becomes learnable in a group setting. The cohort.

The productized service becomes a teachable method. Workshops, Courses.

The productized service now becomes codified. The software.

People have questions, want new frameworks, weekly sessions and need continuous support. The community. 

Each one of these offers is the same but delivered through a different mechanism.

Each meant to serve a MAIN ICP, just at different stages of their journey.

Building my business this way keeps me away from starting an agency which I don’t want to do.

It also allows me to be VERY picky about the done-for-work I take on. 

I only need 3 clients on a DFY level.

Im still in the beginning stages of this full eco-system buildout but the results?

- Way less stress
- Creative freedom 
- More time to build 
- No looming deadlines 
- My highest revenue month in a year 

I don’t think I’ve taken a done-for-you sales call in a month. 

I haven’t needed to. 

This model allows me to build a content driven business vs a sales driven one.

Once all of these mechanism have their initial buildout, they are strung together to create funnels that I run continuously run traffic through via LinkedIn. Youtube. SEO. Podcasts, Substack. 

If I had to describe the type of company im building…

Think Reforge…but for content marketers.

On today’s episode of Lashay’s pipe dreams is an IRL event. 

This runs across my mind at least a few times a month. 

If I held one what would it be like? 

What activities would I plan? 

I’ve been in North Carolina for just over a year now. 

And honestly, I love it here. For activities I think about things like:

- Horseback riding 
- Riding dune buggy’s on the beach 
- Hiking and waterfall sightseeing 
- Spa day 
- pickleball (there’s a lounge/court here that’s awesome) 
- Kayaking 
- Something a little boujie I’ve never done…like golf maybe 

More outdoor type activities. 

Instead of the normal speaking style…

Have a more workshop style feel: 
- Real life examples 
- People who are doing the work now 
- Tactical breakdowns 
- Mental health coaching 
- Bring your problems and we’ll solve together

And for the size? 

It’ll be my first one so maybe around 50 or so people.  

I want a mix between marketers getting the help they need and a mental health break. 

I’m just ranting though. 

We’ll see if it ever happens.

So we’ve all heard about Neo the Humanoid robot that does your chores and all that right? 

And while most tech bros are like “whoaaa, dude this is amazing. Growth. Advancement. 😍” 

My brain immediately goes to how many things can go wrong with this. 

Especially the fact that there’s someone looking through it as it walks around your house doing chores for you. 

The difference between me and my husband David Ridgeley Jr.?  

I just talk about what can go wrong. 

He prompts it.
