One of the things I am super curious about is I sometimes hear from founders is that Square Peg does not invest super early. Our sweet spot for our first cheque is seed and Series A and a very large proportion of our investments since our inception have been in pre product and pre revenue businesses. Our first investment in Canva in 2012 was as part of their first ever funding round. Our first investment in Zeller in 2020 was also first cheque in the company and they were still known as NPC (“New Payments Company”) at that point. We invested in Airwallex in 2017 pre product launch and pre revenue. Other members of our “A” team Athena Home Loans and Amber Electric were also pre revenue when we first invested. Over the last few years more than half of our initial investments have been in pre revenue businesses and this group also includes Exodigo HealthMatch Kula OwnHome PureSec (Acq. by Palo Alto Networks) retrain.ai Q-CTRL Sternum Voyantis Vow and Tomorrow.io I would love to get some input from people why that perception exists with founders. We are always keen to learn and please include any comments below. 🙏 More importantly we wanted to again re-emphasise to Founders that it is never too early to approach us. The earlier the better!

I BEAT the “need experience to get a job, but need a job to get experience” paradox in these EXACT steps ✨💸 I landed my first job in industry as an influencer marketing assistant, when I was a second year student without a single drop of “corporate” marketing experience. How? Just like this… 👋 Step one: I used what I had. Retail experience, university group projects, my Instagram for my new flat. Unrelated? Think again. The negotiation skills working with customers gave me, the communication skills my group projects helped me grow and the knowledge of community and growth my Instagram provided made me the PERFECT candidate. I communicated this by using the “did this, by doing this, resulting in this” method - and making sure to emphasise the results and how that particular skill could benefit the company I was applying for. 🏆 Step two: I made myself memorable. Now THIS is where I think I really won the role. I made myself memorable by going above and beyond - and no, I don’t *just* mean a follow up email. I mean creating a whole mock influencer campaign in a Canva slideshow, for one of the agency’s clients (that I’d found by studying their website) that I sent in alongside my CV. Had I ran an influencer campaign before? Nope. But did this document show my thought process, thorough research and demonstrate all the skills needed to do so? Yep yep yep. 💡 Step three: I levelled up where I could, alone. No practical social media experience? Share your OOTD’s on TikTok. No graphic design experience? Create some mock posts for your favourite brands on Instagram. No strategy experience? Grab a free online template and get building. 🌎 Don’t wait - CREATE. Taking hold of my future was the best thing I ever did. I bet if you give it a go, it’ll be the best thing you ever do too.

I gained 21,398 followers in 60 days. The secret? I started repurposing my best posts into carousel/PDF posts. Here's how I do it in 5 steps: 1. I log in to Shield Shield is my analytics hub. It's also my LinkedIn post library. It holds every single post I've ever published. 2. I pick a month Any month. Ideally I go back 3+ months. But I'm not picky. 3. I sort the posts by views descending I want to see the most viewed posts. Why? Because I'm after reach here. I want posts that will potentially blow up. 4. I pick an educational post Now, this is the key. I know educational content builds trust. I know educational content shows expertise. This type of content gets followers, because they know you will be an asset to them in the future. If I can combine: - Potential blow up reach - Educational content Then I know I'm going to get a ton of views AND new followers. Plus if that post is educating about writing on LinkedIn, I know those followers will be interested in my main content. These ain't no phony followers. 5. I copy and paste the post into Canva slides My style is black and white. It takes no time to design at all. I use the same format and design almost every time. Boring but it works. That is it tbh: 1. I log in to Shield 2. I pick a month 3. I sort the posts by views descending 4. I pick an educational post 5. I copy and paste the post into Canva slides I schedule 2 of these posts every week - 1 on Wednesday morning and 1 on Sunday morning. Carousels/PDF posts are hot right now. But the post won't blow up just cus it's a carousel. It needs to be a great educational post with a call to follow you at the end. THAT is how you'll gain keen followers.
