It's surprising (and disheartening) that so many AWS-certified DevOps don't know the basic Linux commands. Like is that even possible? Can you survive like that?

In software industry, some problems are too hard to solve. So instead of solving them we decided to ignore them. We expect the user to refresh or restart the laptop. One such good example is dead lock. Both Linux and window expect user to restart the laptop in case it hangs because of resource unavailable or too many processes running at the same time.

If you're a strong developer that is comfortable working in Golang and C, and interested in building system-wide, fleet-wide, always-on profiling capability, and likes stuff like distributed systems, eBPF, the Linux Kernel, compiler optimizations etc. -- let me know, my team is hiring. We've got a fantastic team, interesting problems, and technology that is a year or two ahead of the competition. Hit me up if this interests you, or if you know anyone that is interested. We're also particularly interested in PhD candidates in the last stages of their degree that have already decided to not pursue academia :), but we don't have any requirements for degrees - competence trumps paper credentials.

It has been too long since I have installed anything on my personal laptop. Apparently, when my SSD died, it was high time to try something different. My machine is old enough not to support the latest edition of Windows, so I hopped o Ubuntu after several years of running Debian. And the latest LTS release is great! Everything runs smoothly even on my old Dell laptop (I've had it since 2015). Open-source software adoption is an important part of me as I believe in the ethics of F(L)OSS. I've been a Linux user for many many years now and I've been watching how different technologies evolve. What are your steps to a more just world? #linux #ubuntu

I don't know why but I keep seeing folks say they use CCleaner. They literally ship bloat and shipped malware a couple years ago. Just use Bleachbit. It's free and open source while working on Windows, MacOS, and Linux.

So I just damaged my M2 MacBook Air speakers doing sine sweep tests at full volume, *with* the recently introduced HPF/volume cap safeties. And *this* is why Asahi Linux isn't shipping with speakers enabled yet. Good thing I have AppleCare!

So...uhh...not to sound old and crotchety, but If you're new to containers and the cloud native ecosystem, I can't stress enough that having a fundamental understanding of Linux is a *requirement*. If you jump right into Kubernetes you're just going to have a bad time.

It's kind of interesting how many general Linux bugs and problems we're running into and fixing as Asahi. Nothing huge, but there's the whole >4K page support issue in random software (which we're pushing on purpose), BTI issues in mesa, lots of random kernel bugs...
