@aron-levinIs this the *end* of the $4 billion stock photography Industry? I ran an experiment, and Only 2 out of 70 respondents could spot all 4 "fake" photos (Midjourney vs Stock photography). My prediction: In the near term, AI and generative art will force a long tail of stock photographers out of business. They won’t be able to outsmart or outwork the technology. Next up, the same technology will force the very platforms out of business, too. So who gets to have the last laugh? The real creatives and artists, I think. Encyclopaedia Britannica had a successful 244-year run, but it was ultimately surpassed by Wikipedia. Do people miss the nostalgia of flipping through a traditional encyclopedia? Perhaps. Will we miss stock photography? Probably not.
Sharing some sunday gratitude for everyone truly here for the art... those with enough conviction in the generative art movement to know that long-term value will be driven by the art itself... and for those with the passion to stand behind extraordinary art no matter what. 🙏
hypothesis: on-chain procedurally generated generative art will have a growing premium as the digital art market matures. the provenance of "generated at time of mint" is pretty magical. art pulled out from the ether. on-chain alchemy.
5 AI generative art tools you've never heard: 1. BlueWillow: AI art generator 2. CoolAiid: Interior design 3. Deep Anime: Anime art 4. Imagine Me: Prompt to get an AI avatar 5. Visily: Website wireframing What is another underrated tool you'd add?
code needs to perform, it can't be captured. when you create generative art in the way some of my work exists, the instant it gets encoded in video for the web or represented as an image, it kills everything that's essential to it.
Hugo Amsellem
@hugoamsellemWeekly newsletter's posted - you are all likely sick of me talking about AI generative art, but I've finally realized it's a lot bigger than JPGs. I think augmented AI will fundamentally change every industry - just like the internet started doing 25 years ago. It's the next big tech wealth creator, IMO. Also, insight from Troy Young, Hugo Amsellem, Casey Newton, Stratechery, vidIQ, Rebecca Jennings, YouTube's Creator Insider team and much more. Plus, a sneak peek into what I'll be doing for the #licreatoraccelerator over the next few months!
AI art can't really be good, because when it's good it usually isn't called AI art. it's instead referred to as generative art or procedural art because good artists aren't eager to anthropomorphize their tools into a sci-fi monster.
Luca Sartoni
@lucasartoniToday I announce my departure from Automattic. After almost nine incredible years of professional growth and development, I have decided it is time for me to move on and take on new adventures. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that Automattic has given me over the years. From the moment I joined the team as a Growth Engineer on Akismet, up to my last role as Director of Product Engineering on Jetpack, I knew that this was a special place filled with talented and passionate individuals. I sincerely thank all my colleagues, who have become more like a family to me over the years. Your support and friendship have meant the world to me, and I will always cherish the memories we have made together. Over the past few years, I have been devoted to managing engineering teams and cultivating a new generation of engineering leaders. With pervasive generative artificial intelligence rising, software development is undergoing a transformation. Advanced tools are amplifying the creation of digital assets, ranging from content production to design to algorithms. This rapid advancement in the industry further emphasizes the importance of how organizations are structured, organized, and managed. I am firm in the belief that effective leadership requires more than just instinct. It takes dedication, passion, and a conscious effort to understand, support, and direct people. Whilst positional influence may have been a critical management tool in the past, it is no longer sufficient in an industry where talent is no longer confined by geography. Through my experience managing teams with members spread across 12+ time zones from Hyderabad, India, to Portland, Oregon, I implemented processes to ensure productivity, resilience, and reliability. I have come to understand that while tools, objectives, and technologies are constantly changing, good leadership is an essential pillar for any organization. Leadership can transform average teams into high-performing ones by creating an environment of understanding, support, and appreciation that attracts and retains the best talent. As I embark on this next stage in my professional journey, I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that await me. I am currently assessing a few new ventures and am open to engaging in conversations regarding potential collaborations or employment offers. What can I do for you? I am confident that I can help your company become location agnostic, making your projects attractive to an international talent pool. Additionally, I can assess the quality of your leadership and provide recommendations for improvement to amplify their results. Lastly, I can assist in developing the next generation of managers within your organization, as I successfully did in the recent past. I am eager to collaborate on new and exciting projects adding value to ambitious teams to make them even more successful. Get in touch, and let’s talk! #leadership #growth #opportunity

@georgesorindanWe’re starting to see the very early stages of a tech stack emerge in generative artificial intelligence. Hundreds of new startups are rushing into the market to develop foundation models, build AI-native apps, and stand up infrastructure & tooling. The generative AI boom has been accompanied by real gains in real markets, and real traction from real companies. Models like Stable Diffusion and ChatGPT are setting historical records for user growth, and several applications have reached $100 million of annualized revenue less than a year after launch. There is enough early data to suggest massive transformation is taking place. What we don’t know, and what has now become the critical question, is: Where in this market will value accrue? Infrastructure vendors are likely the biggest winners in this market so far, capturing the majority of dollars flowing through the stack. Application companies are growing topline revenues very quickly but often struggle with retention, product differentiation, and gross margins. And most model providers, though responsible for the very existence of this market, haven’t yet achieved large commercial scale. Matt Bornstein, Guido Appenzeller, and Martin Casado are incredibly bullish on generative AI and believe it will have a massive impact in the software industry and beyond. They map out the dynamics of the market and start to answer the broader questions about generative AI business models. 👇
Is anyone aware of an interview podcast where the conversation is between two or more practicing generative artists, and the content covered ranges from the technical to the conceptual aspects of their practice? If this doesn’t exist, should it?
Dear Generative Artists. Come experiment dropping your curated pieces in Sol. Start the movement. BONK money ready to deploy. Long form platform coming soon.
Dr. Jeffrey Funk
@dr-jeffrey-funk-a979435As media executives look to pop the stock of flagging publicly traded companies, tech advances in AI are becoming the new gimmick to wow (even temporarily) the investing class. Spotify released what it is calling an “AI DJ,” powered by technology from OpenAI. The DJ takes the music a Spotify user listens to and combines it with recommendations from music experts and an AI-generated voice to create a personalized radio show. Snap released an assistant called “My AI,” based on ChatGPT, bringing the capabilities of that LLM to Snapchat+ users. In his first letter to creators as CEO of YouTube, Neal Mohan wrote: “the power of AI is just beginning to emerge in ways that will reinvent video and make the seemingly impossible possible,” and that it will be a priority for him. And at small digital #startups such as BuzzFeed and Arena Group Holdings (the owner of Sports Illustrated), AI is being touted as a source of new types of storytelling. One CEO said it “can create enterprise value for our brands and partners.” AI news has also led to share price surges at companies like BuzzFeed (which uses it and saw its stock price more than double) and Microsoft (whose rise was in the high single digits). Similarly at Endeavor (creator of startup eco-systems), its earnings call began with comments from generative artificial intelligence to promote the supplier of the #technology, Speechify. “We’re in business with them, we think they’re a really good company,” Emanuel said of Speechify. After the public release of OpenAI’s large language model chatbot ChatGPT, it seems every company wants a piece of the AI action, or at least wants to send a message that it’s thinking about it. Companies with close ties to media and entertainment are no exception. Many investors see through the #hype. “We have lived through a number of ‘hype’ cycles in technology investing over the past 20-plus years,” two analysts say, calling out the “metaverse” talk last year. “Such cycles typically produce investor exuberance well in excess of actual product and unit economic shifts, while losing sight of the heavy lifting of actual investment cycles and necessary product iteration which typically take years to develop.” Although Wall Street is still very bullish on #AI in the long term, today’s offerings underscore the hollowness of AI hype. The products available today, from personalized quizzes and AI DJs to chatbots and deepfakes, are still firmly in the gimmick phase. So while the possibilities are real, the current stock prices may be, to borrow a term for false information created by generative AI, a “hallucination.” And those looking for a piece of the AI pie also need to proceed cautiously. the Federal Trade Commission said last month that it is concerned with the creep of “AI hype” across corporate America. #artificialintelligence #innovation #ethics

@dr-joao-monteiroLarge language models and tools like #ChatGPT are here to stay, but not ready for primetime yet, at least when it comes to medicine. In our new World View, Alex Zhavoronkov argues that generative artificial intelligence tools such as chatGPT have many uses in medicine, but a lack of accuracy poses problems. Bill Rogers
@billwilliamrogersUsing OpenAI ChatGPT for question answering in Healthcare When a patient visits a healthcare website, there is often a ChatBot. One of the purposes of a ChatBot is to answer questions. OpenAI recently released ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence that can generate text, images, and sounds in response to short utterances. It is very large language model (the largest to date) trained on a large body of content. It can have an answer to almost any question. But sometimes, the answer sounds very convincing but needs to be corrected. Question answering is a lot of work when a human has to do all the work. ChatGPT can act as a Co-pilot, to reduce the amount of work that a human would need to do, with the benefit that the human is curating the response. #openAI #healthcare #artificialintelligence #AI #chatgpt
