@nicholasslavichA friend of mine is in a job he loves. But his career journey has been extremely unique. Unemployed to VP. Here it is. As a film major in college, he liked to make short films, write poetry, and ride bikes. In his first job, he was working as a production assistant. He then worked as a game writer (literally thinking of new board games and writing instructions for them) for a few months before landing his next gig. Seemingly random. He landed his next job as an office assistant, then back to production, all while doing some freelance videography. Then a multi-month gap in employment. But then. He landed a role as Marketing Manager for a small bicycle company. He films videos for the company, writes content for all social platforms, leads high leverage projects, and manages the company brand image. He’s been promoted and is now a VP with a small team reporting to him. So what’s the point? Every step we’re on leads us to the next. Every part of the journey is the journey. Everything has led us to this moment. If it feels random or discouraging or unknown, that’s super fair. It can be hard. But know that your story is building and going somewhere. It’s all led you here.

@jcoreyTikTok continues to blow my mind. The rate at which they release large features is insane. Whether you’re in marketing/content or are just curious about TikTok updates, I put some notes together on how they may be competing with more established platforms for attention: 1. TikTok SEO (Search Engine Optimization) — competing with Youtube/Google? - The rate at which younger audiences are using TikTok to search for fashion, health, make-up, travel, and other tips/education is increasing massively - There’s so much untapped potential to capture SEO terms by brands while they can right now. - Tiktok is investing in long-form content — they just increased max run time and max caption length which means more keywords and information can be added to each post - However, YouTube/Google has been in this game way longer so they may just crush Tiktok with the rise of Youtube Shorts - People are ultimately going to go where they believe the more valuable content is - TikTok's biggest challenge is in incentivizing creators to stay with Tiktok. Youtube has revenue-sharing via advertising which is more lucrative for creators long term. 2. "TikTok Now" — competing with BeReal? - The user-base Tiktok has is a big leg up over BeReal - This is yet another organic feature influencers and brands can tap into to form real relationships - However, Tiktok is based on ‘interests’ not ‘social’ — people go on their to scroll like they’re flipping through TV channels, not to see what their friends are up to - The strength of BeReal is that it’s lesser known and more of a if-you-know-you-know platform - This means it’s less saturated and more relevant to users who only care about their immediate network 3. TikTok “Nearby” Filter — competing with Yelp? - This is an important one for retail brands to tap into - Restaurants, shops, and any brand in groceries or markets should be creating content with this feature in mind 4. TikTok Video Editing Features In-App + ‘Capcut’ — competing with iMovie? - TikTok's in-app video editing capabilities just got upgraded and are far superior to Instagram’s - Videography is increasingly becoming more mainstream and mobile-first — Tiktok is clearly winning here and providing more accessibility to existing creators and new ones - Their video editing app Capcut (which you can get on Desktop now) is designed with social apps in mind - letting you pull in music directly from what’s trending, and adding transitions/captions that are directly from the native platform - The real key is to make video editing collaborative and cloud-based - like Figma is for design ——— Did I miss anything? lol #tiktok #tiktokmarketing #tiktokads #marketing #brand #content #seo

Social media is ridiculously hard and the platforms are making it harder by the day (one reason we niched our specialism to TikTok as it's impossible to be an expert at all of them!). Here are just some of the things that social media managers get tasked with doing: 🤯 creative and idea generation 🤯 videography 🤯 video editing 🤯 photography 🤯 graphic design 🤯 data analyst 🤯 copywriter 🤯 presenter 🤯 strategy 🤯 scheduling 🤯 trendspotting and being reactive 🤯 audio expert 🤯 paid advertising specialist Let's not forget that nearly every social media channel now needs a different design, size and has a different purpose. There is no wonder that we see landscape videos on Instagram because the team simply don't have time to film and edit multiple versions of the same video topic! All of this and then when a piece of content doesn't 'go viral' then it can come across as a failure. The demand for immediate results on social media is a real challenge as most people just don't understand the long term value of social and building communities. Everyone is so quick to compare to the biggest companies on social media but never take a second to look at when they first started or even what their first pieces of content were. The answer to these are ... years ago and likely rubbish but they committed long term, invested and constantly improved! Social media takes time to get right and if you genuinely believe it is a benefit to your business then invest and invest in the long term! Thank you to all social media managers out there!
